... Azo dyes are widely used in the textile industry and are the largest and most versatile group of synthetic organic dyes, with a tremendous number of industrial applications (Kurtoglu, 2009). Azo dyes are characterized by the presence of one or more azo group (-N=N-) in association with two or more aromatic or heterocyclic system (Olayinka et al., 2013;Zainab et al., 2013;Asniza et al., 2011). Many heterocyclic compounds are used extensively in disperse dye chemistry for textile or non-textile applications. ...

Spray-drying is the liquid food drying method where stickiness and wall deposition has most commonly been a major issue. For that reason, the efficacy of chemical surface coating was introduced to reduce stickiness and improve product recovery. The stainless steel (SS) plate used to mimic wall of drying chamber, coated with liquid polytetrafluroethylene (PTFE) to increase its hydrophibicty. The hydrophobicity and morphological properties were determined by means of goniometer, SEM and EDX respectively. From the results obtained, the exposure of PTFE on SS has reduced significantly the powder stickiness (p<0.05). Moreover, the treated SS shows higher contact angle than the untreated one (p<0.05). In fact, the SEM images of the treated SS showed rough surfaces as to indicate its hydrophobicity shifting. The surface roughness will reflect the value of contact angle where hydrophobic surface is rougher compare to hydrophilic surface. In summary, we reported that a simple surface modification using PTFE on the SS slide has successfully proven to be one of the potential approaches to reduce the powder stickiness on the wall of spray dryer.
... The IR spectrum of the ligand (L) (Figure 6) exhibited broad band at 3421 cm -1 , which was assigned to the stretching vibration of υ(OH) group. This band was absent in the spectra of all prepared complexes Figure 7., which indicated deprotonation and involvement of the enol oxygen in chelation ( Jarad 2013).Band characteristic of the azo bridge vibration at 1521 cm -1 shifted to lower frequency with change in shape in spectra of complexes, Figure 8. Which is an indication of the engagement of this group in the coordination with the metal ion ( Al-Mousway et al. 2013). The appearance of new bands in the region of 443- 489 cm -1 are tentatively assigned to υ(M-N) and υ(M-O) (Metal-Ligand) stretching bands( Hakim et al.2008, Rajavel et al. 2008). ...

Transition metal complexes of Co(II) and Ni(II) with azo dye 3,5-dimethyl-2-(4-nitrophenylazo)-phenol derived from 4-nitoaniline and 3,5-dimethylphenol were synthesized. Characterization of these compounds has been done on the basis of elemental analysis, electronic data, FT-IR,UV-Vis and 1 HNMR, as well as magnetic susceptibility and conductivity measurements. The nature of the complexes formed were studies following the mole ratio and continuous variation methods, Beer ' s law obeyed over a concentration range (1x10-4-3x10-4 M). High molar absorbtivity of the complex solutions were observed. From the analytical data, the stoichiomerty of the complexes has been found to be 1:2 (Metal:ligand). On the basis of physicochemical data tetrahedral geometries were assigned for the complexes. The inhibitory effect of prepared compounds was used to study the type of inhibition. The results from line weaver-Burk plot indicated that the inhibitor type was non competitive with a range (31.76-83-21%).

The ligand 4-(2-aminmo-5-nitro-phenylazo)-1,5-dimethyl-2-phenyl-1,2-dihydro-pyrazol-3-one derived from 4-aminoantipyrine and 4-nitroaniline was synthesized. The synthesized ligand was characterized by 1HNMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis spectra and (C.H.N) analysis. Complexes of (YIII and LaIII ) with the ligand were prepared in aqueous ethanol with a 1:2 M:L ratio and at optimum pH. The prepared complexes were characterized by using flame atomic absorption, FT-IR, UV-Vis spectra,(C.H.N) analysis and conductivity measurement. The stoichiometry of complexes was studied by the mole ratio and job methods. A concentration range (1×10-4 - 3×10-4 M) obeyed Beer's law, the complex solutions show high values of molar absorption. On the basis of physicochemical data octahedral geometries were attributed for the complexes. All prepared compounds exhibited good antibacterial activity, the ligand and their complexes were application to cotton fabric and study of the detergent fastness

In this study, transition metal complexes of Co(II) and Cu(II) with a newbisazo dye (2-(4-methoxy-2-(4-methoxy phenyl)diazenyl)phenyl)diazenyl)-4,5-diphenylimidazole were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, electronic data, FT-IR, 1 H-NMR, 13 C-NMR, HMBC, HQSY and molar conductivity measurements. It has been found that the bisazo ligand behaves as tridentate (N,N',N") donor ligand forming chelates with (1:2) (metal: ligand) stoichiometry.
