1.5-mum emissions from Nd:YAG, Nd:YVO(4), and LiNdP(4) O(12) microchip lasers pumped by laser diodes have been observed. These coherent emissions are attributed to the effect of high-energy modified lattice vibration owing to the existence of Nd ions as well as to stimulated intracavity Raman scattering enhanced by the microchip configuration. A fo...

Cibacron Blue F3GA-attached magnetic poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) [mPHEMA] beads were prepared by suspension polymerization of HEMA in the presence of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanopowder. Average diameter size of the mPHEMA beads was 150–200 μm. The characteristic functional groups of Cibacron Blue F3GA-attached mPHEMA beads were analyzed by Fourier...

Raman and TEM measurements on a thick GaAsN layer and on GaAsN/GaAs quantum well structures are reported. The scattering was excited close to resonance with the N-induced E+ transition, and detected in both Stokes and anti-Stokes regions including the low-frequency range around the Rayleigh line. A broad continuous scattering due to acoustic phonon...

Synthesis, crystal structure, DSC characterization, dielectric and Raman measurements are given for a new mixed solution K2(SO4)0.9(SeO4)0.1·Te(OH)6 (KSSeTe). X-ray studies showed that the title compound crystallizes in the triclinic system (P ¯1) with the following parameters: a = 6.2560(3)A° , b = 6.5680(3)A° , c = 13.1550(6)A° , α = 102.30(2)◦,...

High-pressure Raman scattering measurements for the high-pressure phase III of methane hydrate (MH-III, filled ice structure) have been performed at pressures up to 25 GPa and at 296 K. We have observed the O-H stretching Raman signal in the MH-III phase by growing the MH-III crystals over several days at 1.9 GPa. The O-H stretching vibrational pea...

The Raman intensity versus electrode voltage behavior of a series of substituted pyridines and saturated nitrogen heterocyclic compounds was studied at two laser excitation energies. The voltage (resonance) maximum shifts to more positive potential with increasing excitation energy for the substituted pyridines (case I) and to more negative potenti...

... In sheet-pumped LNP lasers, on the other hand, complicated symmetric patterns which resemble bouncing-ball modes in quantum billiard systems 6) were observed instead of OHM, in which emission profiles were the same for near-and far-field patterns. Additional support for the skew ray is that the stimulated Stokes-like emission at 1560 nm observed in the 1-mm-thick Nd:YVO 4 FPM lasers 7,8) was not observed in the OHM operations. This result is reasonable because the phonon-assisted interaction between 1064 and 1560 nm fields does not occur due to the dispersion-induced path difference among the two fields in OHM operations. ...

We observed a highly efficient self-induced “oval hollow” mode operation in a Fabry-Perot microchip solid-state laser under strongly asymmetric “sheetlike” end-pumping. This new class of microresonator lasing mode features a hollow emission near-field pattern with a dark spot inside and a narrow unidirectional line-shape far-field pattern with a uniform intensity distribution.

Stokes-like IR (1560-1600-nm) emissions, which have been observed in laser-diode- (LD-) pumped microchip Nd-doped lasers, are re-examined experimentally. Dependences of IR emissions on pump wavelengths, pump densities, and operating temperatures are studied. The response of IR emissions to coherent probe-beam injection is investigated by use of a tunable LD light source. Optical phonons emitted through Auger recombination processes that result from LD high-density pumping are proposed to induce resonant intracavity stimulated phonon-sideband emissions.

We systematically studied dynamic effects in Nd-doped Y3Al5O12 (YAG) ceramic lasers having different Nd concentrations. A variety of dynamic instabilities, including square wave periodic pulsations, were found to take place due to the increased grain boundaries in highly-doped samples.
