In the present study, we examined a small sample of lophoproctids from the Balkan Peninsula and its surroundings. The millipede family Lophoproctidae is recorded from Serbia and Croatia for the first time, with Lopho-proctus coecus Pocock, 1894 and Lophoproctinus (?) inferus (Silvestri, 1903) being involved, respectively. In addition, L. coecus is...

New and interesting records of Balkans Lepidoptera are detailed. Holoterpna pruinosata (Staudinger, 1897), recently known in Europe only from Crimea, was re-discovered in the Balkan Peninsula. Idaea sericeata (Hübner, 1813) is shown to be a part of the Balkan fauna. Pabulatrix pabulatricula (Brahm, 1791) is new for the Central Balkans. Two genera and four species are new and six species are reported for the second time for Albania. For Montenegro, one genus and four species are new and four species are recorded for the second time. One genus and four species are new for the Republic of North Macedonia. Three species are new and two are reported for the second time for Serbia. Four species are new to Bulgaria and 11 are reported for the second time. For many other species, third localities are reported for certain countries. For other species we report highest or lowest altitude localities and southernmost/easternmost points of their range. Data for some other interesting species from these countries and Greece are also presented, including new localities for species with poorly known distribution in the Balkan Peninsula and Balkans countries. Illustrations of specimens and their genitalia are given when necessary. Altogether data for 267 species of Lepidoptera are presented here, with 200 figures of habitats, specimens and their genitalia. In addition one Tachinidae (Diptera) parasitoid is new for Albania, and a new host species is reported for it.

Perizoma obsoletata (Herrich-Schäffer, 1838) is shown to be a part of the Balkan fauna. Pabulatrix pabulatricula (Brahm, 1791) is new for the Western Balkans. One genus and 12 species are new and 20 species are reported for the second time for Albania. For Montenegro, one genus and eight species are new and two species are recorded for the first time. One genus and four species are new for the Republic of North Macedonia and another five species are reported for the second time from that country. One genus and three species are new for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Four species are reported for the second time and two for the third time for Serbia. Localities for Charissa pfeifferi (Wehrli, 1926) in Bulgaria are recorded for the first time. Data for some other interesting species from these countries and Greece are also presented. Most specimens were collected at light in 2019. Illustrations of specimens and their genitalia are given when necessary. Everted vesicas of some Geometridae species are illustrated for the first time.

Introduction : Many chronic somatic and psychiatric diseases are associated with oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which have detrimental effects on human health. Aim : To investigate the in vitro antioxidant and in vivo immunomodulatory activities of Satureja montana dry extract. Material and methods : The in vitro antioxidant activity of Satureja montana dry extract was assessed using ORAC, HORAC, and electrochemical methods. Immunomodulatory activity was evaluated in acute and chronic stress models by measuring the serum levels of cytokines TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β in a cohort of 112 male 8-week-old Wistar rats. The rats were randomly divided into 7 groups for each of both stress models and then subjected to ELISA analysis (14 groups with 8 rats in each group). The rodents were gavaged with a dry extract of Satureja montana (250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg), rosmarinic acid (15 mg/kg), and carvacrol (500 mg/kg) for 14 days and 60 days, respectively. Results : We demonstrated that, for all employed in vitro methods, the dried extract of Satureja montana exhibited considerable antioxidant activity. Satureja montana did not significantly lower serum concentrations of TNF-α, IL-6, or IL-1β in either stress model as compared to the positive saline control group. On the other hand, in the acute stress model, a dose of 250 mg/kg of Satureja montana significantly decreased IL-6 in comparison to carvacrol and significantly reduced TNF-α and IL-6 in comparison to rosmarinic acid. Conclusion : Although Satureja montana dry extract has significant antioxidant activity in vitro, its influence on systemic inflammation is still unknown. Future research will look into how it affects serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines.

The Geometridae is the second most diverse Lepidoptera family in Europe but its diversity has not been studied evenly across the continent. In this paper, we present the first tentative checklist of Geometridae from Kosovo, which is based on the results from our survey conducted in the period March-October 2020 and the existing literature. During our survey we recorded 89 Geometrid species, among them, 13 have been recorded for the first time in Kosovo. Along with the literature records, the tentative Checklist of Geometridae from Kosovo contains 247 species or about 24% of species of this family present in Europe. We consider that this number does not represent the final number of Geometridae species but is just a baseline for further studies of this moth family in Kosovo.
