This paper focuses on the design of a novel automatic‐dependent surveillance‐broadcast (ADS‐B) patch antenna operating at 1090 MHz with good bandwidth and good gain for aircraft tracking and navigation purposes. The structure of the proposed antenna consists of a long strip line ended by a crescent patch, a U‐shaped ground plane, and a rectangular...

... In order to get a full 360 0 cycle scanning, this kind of antenna setup should have an omni-directional disc-shaped antenna beam pattern along the horizontal ground plane. In this article, novel designs of triangular-prismatically arranged binomially and gaussian distributed 1×8 slotted mm-wave substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) array antennas with improved sidelobe level, and their comparative study are reported in the regime of ground surveillance application [14][15][16]. Using the concept of non-uniform offsets for the radiating slots, the amplitude of the excitations for the slots are varied. ...

Two novel designs of triangular prismatically arranged 1×8 slotted mm-wave slotted Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) array antenna at 28 GHz with binomially and gaussian distributed slot positions for reducing the side lobe level (SLL) is proposed and their impedance and radiation characteristics are investigated in this article in the realm of ground surveillance applications. Here, the slots on the upper metallic wall of the waveguide are distributed at specific positions following binomial distribution and normal distribution respectively. The proposed 1×8 slotted SIW antenna arrays with non-uniformly distributed slots are compared with the structure having uniform offset slot positions. A comparative study on the radiation patterns of these configurations reveals that binomially and normally distributed slot arrays provide significantly reduced SLL and improved omnidirectional radiation property over the slotted array with uniform offset locations
