Critical metallic elements in coal gangue have great utilization potential, especially due to the current shortage of these metals. This paper focused on examining the feasibility of physical separation (screening and float-sink tests) and calcination treatment for the enrichment of critical elements (Li, Ga, and rare earth elements plus yttrium (REY)) from coal gangue. The impacts of these enrichment methods on the acid leaching recovery of these elements were then studied. Screening tests indicated that Li and Ga were enriched in >0.125 mm size fraction and the content of REY was highest in <75 μm size fraction. Float-sink tests showed that high-density fractions were enriched in Li and Ga, and low-density fractions were enriched in REY. Physical separation cannot significantly improve the leaching rate of Li, Ga, and REY. Notably, Li, Ga, and REY were enriched significantly, and their acid leaching recoveries were increased by 54~68% after calcination under 400 °C. Sequential chemical extraction tests showed that the majority of insoluble Li, Ga, and REY was converted into soluble forms at the above temperature, which is attributed to the formation of amorphous metakaolinite and the decomposition of organic matter. Based on the results, a conceptually combined flowsheet was proposed for the extraction of Li and Ga from coal gangue.

Strategic mineral resources are the indispensable material basis for the national economy. However, with the improvement of industrialization, the demand for strategic mineral resources increases dramatically. The limited resources have caused countries to attach a new level of importance to the recycling of strategic mineral resources. Meanwhile, there has been an unprecedented increase in research on the recycling of key mineral resources in recent years. In this study, bibliometric and visualization analyses of publication data in strategic mineral resources recycling from 1995 to 2022 were conducted to reveal the development and evolution of this field and the current research hot issues. The results of the study show that the number of published literature on strategic mineral resource recycling has fluctuated year by year since 2013 and significantly increased after 2021. In terms of national publications, China, Japan, the United States (U.S.), and the European Union (EU) have conducted more research on crucial resource recycling. Especially since the 2020 United Nations General Assembly, when China's goal of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" was put forward, China's publications concerning critical metal recycling in the three years thereafter were twice as many as those in the previous 25 years. Regarding authorship and citations, Xu Zhenming’s team from China has a greater impact in this particular field. In addition, keyword analysis reveals that “recycling potential,” “adsorption,” and “Li” are the research frontiers and hotspots of strategic mineral resource recycling. “Recovery,” “precious metal,” and “separation” frequently appear, which are the most popular research topics. This study provides a theoretical basis for scholars to know full well about the dynamics of strategic mineral resource recycling, explore its future research direction, and realize the sustainable development of Strategic mineral resources.

Erosion and sedimentation in streams, lakes, reservoirs, and watersheds are a global issue. Runoff and flood waves erode soil and streambank material, destroying agricultural land. Erosion and sedimentation in water bodies induce soil loss in the watershed and diminish channel flow depth and conveyance. Agricultural runoff can pollute aquatic ecosystems by carrying sediment. As per IPCC 2019 report, in tropical and subtropical regions, the impacts of soil erosion can be observed from the high rates of soil loss, in some cases exceeding 100 t/ha/yr. Therefore, it becomes necessary to address the problem of erosion and sedimentation with serious concern. This paper focuses on highlighting the research advancements in the field of erosion and sedimentation phenomenon, estimation of erosion and sedimentation rate in watersheds, streams and reservoirs and resulting impact assessment from reach scale to watershed scale in last five decades and assessing further research scope in this regard. A bibliometric analysis considering 1000 research articles database extracted from the Web of science has been conducted in the Biblioshiny platform using the R-programming tool. The Bibliometric analysis shows an annual scientific production growth of 2.27% in the field of erosion and sedimentation. Most of the articles have been published in the USA, followed by China, UK, and Belgium. This is the first such bibliometric analysis of erosion and sedimentation together considering one thousand articles associated with it. The study can help in observing the publication trend and identifying the recent emerging topics for research in the field of erosion and sedimentation.
