... machining is one of the fundamental modules in the flexible manufacturing system for agile manufacturing.( Leo O'Connor, 1994) Figure 7 shows the physical layout of a machining centre controlled by a personal computer through RS-232. This configuration extends the CAD/CAM collaborative research into the practical manufacturing application. ...

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to propose two simple tools for the kinematic characterization of hexapods. The paper also aims to share the experience of converting a popular commercial motion base (Stewart‐Gough platform, hexapod) to an industrial robot for use in heavy duty aerospace manufacturing processes.

Mechatronic is combination of three main disciplines: mechanics, electronics and theory of control. Part of them are CAD/CAM/CAE systems. This work presents the facilitating impact of CAD software on the design process. Basic modeling methods will be presented, including the creation of objects that are the composition of several smaller parts. The...
Product data exchange among different CAD/CAM/CAE systems or even animation and documentation software are of great importance to computer-integrated manufacturing CIM. This sharing of product data is also a key to successful deployment of concurrent engineering. Furthermore, this practice mainly contributes in reducing lead-time of product develop...
In this work we address the problem of tolerance analysis across the domains of industrial inspection using sensed data, CAD design, and manufacturing. Instead of using geometric primitives in CAD models to deene and represent tolerances, we use stronger methods that are completely based on the manufacturing knowledge for the objects to be inspecte...

... Though CAD/CAM technology was developed in 1970s, it remains a single user application tool. With the advancement of manufacturing technology and communication tools, a product designed on one side of the world can be tested, analysed and manufactured in another part of the world on a real time basis and the recent trend towards global manufacturing has led to the need for collaborative CAD/CAM systems (Lin and Kao, 1995). In collaborative CAD/CAM, a combination of communication tools including e-mail, multimedia, video conferencing, web browser and 3-dimensional CAD geometry viewer, and annotator are essential to build a feasible multimedia-designing environment through the internet. ...
Global competition and rapidly changing customer requirements are forcing major changes in the production styles and configuration of manufacturing enterprises. Traditional centralized manufacturing systems are not able to meet these requirements. In recent years, the internet has become the worldwide information platform for the sharing of information and data. Information processing is an important challenge in an internet-based manufacturing environment, and must facilitate distribution, heterogeneity, autonomy and cooperation. This paper reviews recent trends and major developments in internet-based manufacturing. Broad categories of distributed information management are identified, based upon the development of computer integrated manufacturing, and the possible direction of future research is indicated.
