An important class of algorithms for constraint optimization searches for solutions guided by a heuristic evaluation function (bound) that can be computed using tree decomposition and dynamic program-ming. Recently, it has been shown that if only a few best solutions are needed, the cost of pre-processing can be avoided by interleaving dy-namic pro...

... instance, S p = ( [0,1], max, ·, 0, 1) forms a probabilistic c-semiring. The idempotency of the + operation induces a partial order ≤ S over A as follows: a ≤ S b iff a + b = b (for S p , ≤ S ≡ ≤, and + ≡ max). In this paper, we assume that ≤ S is a total order. For example, diagnosis of the full adder circuit shown in Fig. 1 can be framed as a COP over S p with variables X = {u, v, w, x, y, z, c, s, a 1 , a 2 , e 1 , e 2 , o 1 }. Vari- ables u to s are Boolean variables with domain {0, 1}. Variables a 1 to o 1 describe the mode of a component, "Good" or "Broken," and have domain {G,B}. If a component is good (G) then it correctly performs its Boolean ...

Due to the large-scale and distributed characteristics of increasing renewable energy resources, dynamic economic emission dispatch (DEED) of hybrid energy resource system becomes more and more important in the power system operation. This paper proposes a distributed model predictive control (DMPC) method for hybrid energy resources system of dyna...

It is common that strategic investment decisions are made at a slow time-scale, whereas operational decisions are made at a fast time-scale. Hence, the total number of decision stages may be huge. In this paper, we consider multistage stochastic optimization problems with two time-scales, and we propose a time block decomposition scheme to address...

Microgrids are recognized as a relevant tool to absorb decentralized renewable energies in the energy mix. However, the sequential handling of multiple stochastic productions and demands, and of storage, make their management a delicate issue. We add another layer of complexity by considering microgrids where different buildings stand at the nodes...

Research on water allocation of multiple reservoirs with the purpose of reducing water spills and improving the local runoff utilization is a matter of great concern in humid areas with uneven temporal and spatial distributions of water resources. An optimization model for a system of reservoirs in series is developed to minimize water shortages. S...

Model-based diagnosis has a great advantage compared to other diagnostic methods. However, there are some problems existed in model-based method like large complexity, inefficient. This paper studies a state searching method using system conflicts to exclude large invalid state space and speed up the search procedure. All the tested candidate states are generated in best first order and expanded to find best solutions of the system. The simulation results prove the proposed searching method is more effective than the general method.
