Titanium alloys have gained prominence in aerospace and automotive industries due to higher strength to weight ratio and lesser weight. Titanium alloys employed in diverse applications cannot be produced as near net shape components and require holes and other machining processes for structural assembly. Drilling the most conventional machining pro...

Nature-inspired texture patterns exhibit intricate, organic designs that mimic the intricacy found in the natural world and are too complex to be generated on a surface. The work presents an experimental investigation and optimization of EDM parameters for the generation of nature-inspired texture pattern i.e., hexagonal texture pattern on a steel surface using the copper electrode. Duty factor (DF), primary current (Ip), and pulse-on time (Ton) are considered as input parameters, and deviation in texture area (DTA), corner radius (CR), and machining time (MT) as output responses of EDM. Experiments are performed based on the Taguchi (L32-OA) and optimization is done by integrated Entropy-PROMETHEE-II method. Here, the entropy method is used for the determination of precise criteria weights while PROMETHEE-II is used for multi-response optimization. Simultaneously, the significance of the EDM parameters is analyzed via. parametric and ANOVA respectively. The result shows that Pulse on time is found most influencing parameter and Exp. No-18 (90% DF, 50 µs Ton, and 2A Ip) is obtained as the optimal setting for EDM. The optimal setting is obtained as; DTA (33,206.5) µm², CR (44.6738 µm), and MT (68.68 s). At last, the surface integrity of the generated texture is examined by microscope & profilometer. The EDM process-generated texture is found very smooth and with nominal DTA.
... The entropy technique ensures that the criteria's important levels are assessed objectively. The idea behind this method is that the ideal weight value is made up of data set inconsistencies [101,102]. The weights of F da and UCF were determined as w 1 = 0.0021 and w 2 = 0.9979, respectively, using the relevant steps of the entropy technique (0.021% for F da , 99.79% for UCF). ...
... Figure 15 shows the GAIA plane developed for Scenario 5. Alternatives (27 pieces) are shown by green rectangular dots, while blue-colored axes/lines represent criteria (F da and UCF). Alternatives closest to F da and UCF criteria, as shown by blue-colored axes/lines, are good on that criterion; alternatives far from the relevant criterion might be interpreted as bad on that criterion [74,78,102]. As a result, while the best F da alternatives are 18, 15, and 16, the farthest alternatives are 23, 24, 8, and 22. (Fig. 15a). ...
... Therefore, the value of 100.00% indicates that the F da and UCF values produced by the experimental study are sufficient to interpret the PROMETHEE-GAIA results. In the GAIA plane, the weight vector is represented as a "decision axis" [74,78,102]. The unlabeled axis (red line in Fig. 15a and b) shows the decision bar/axis obtained by projecting the weight vectors onto the GAIA plane. ...

In this study, hole exit delamination and uncut fiber (UCF) formation in the drilling of carbon fiber-reinforced aluminum laminates (CARALL) were investigated. The adjusted delamination factor (Fda) was used to assess delamination. The experiments were carried out using a brad spur drill (Tool 1), a twist drill (Tool 2), and a dagger drill (Tool 3) tool. A multi-mapped image processing model (MMIPM) was developed for an advanced and comprehensive delamination assessment in images by evaluating Fda and UCF parameters. In order to provide more information about the preferential orientation of delamination, in addition to Fda, conventional delamination factor (Fd) and minimum delamination factor (Fdmin) were calculated and a comparison of all delamination approaches was performed. Furthermore, the PROMETHEE-GAIA method was used to perform multi-objective optimization of Fda and UCF. The minimum Fda and UCF values were achieved with the twist drill (Tool 2). Vc = 118 m/min and f = 0.156 mm/rev were optimal conditions for minimum Fda and UCF.
... TOPSIS helps researchers rank alternatives by deriving consensus indices based on the distances of alternatives from the positive ideal solution (PIS) and the negative ideal solution (NIS) [13,37]. The Entropy method is frequently used to determine the weights of performance criteria in the TOPSIS method because the Entropy method is quite suitable for eliminating errors and inconsistencies that may occur when using pure subjective weighting [38]. Many researchers working in machinability have studied the modelling and optimization of cutting force and surface roughness using different approaches. ...
... Optimization was performed using TOPSIS and TLBO. TLBO gave better results than TOPSIS [38]. An experimental study, combined with Taguchi-based Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) and TOPSIS techniques, was conducted by Hameed et al. to optimize machining parameters during dry drilling of Ti6Al4V [41]. ...
... According to the excess of the contrast situation, the information associated and transferred by the relevant criterion is also realized more. Thus, the lower the similarity of the alternatives for a criterion, the more effective that criterion will be in the decision-making process [37,38]. ...
