... Various literature from high-income countries shows that a significant number of patients are harmed during healthcare processes, resulting in either increased medical costs, extended hospital stays, permanent disabilities, or even death [6]. Recent studies also revealed that medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the United States after cancer and heart disease [7]. Globally, from 421 million hospitalizations, 42.7 million adverse events occur in patients [6,8], and low and middle-income countries account for two-thirds of all those adverse events [9]. ...

Background Patient safety in a healthcare setting is now a major global concern. Millions of people suffer disabling injuries or death directly related to medical care errors, particularly in developing countries. Evidence about patient safety culture in Ethiopia is limited. Therefore, this study was designed to assess the level of patient safety culture and associated factors among healthcare providers in government and private healthcare providers. Methods and materials Institution based cross-sectional study was conducted from May to June 30, 2022. Self-administered hospital survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC) tool was used to select 448 study participants. Epi Data version 4.6 and SPSS version 26 were used for data entry and analysis. Chi-square test, Bi-variable, and multivariable logistic regressions were done to determine the association between the independent and outcome variable. Result A total of 448 healthcare providers with a response rate of 99.6% participated. The prevalence of good patient safety culture was 50.9%( 95%CI: 46.2, 55.6%). Patient safety culture difference was observed between government and private healthcare providers (× 2 = 22.6, df = 1, p = 0.000). Type of hospitals (AOR = 0.37(95% CI:(0.21, 0.68), profession (AOR = 2.16 (95% CI:(1.02,4.62), job satisfaction (AOR = 0.19,95%CI:(0.12,0.30), participated in patient safety programs(AOR = 2.69:(95%CI:1.53,4.75), providing necessary equipment and materials (AOR = 2.05(95%CI: 1.18,3.55%), and work shift (AOR = 0.47( 95%CI: 0.25,0.93) were found significantly associated with good patient safety culture among healthcare providers. Conclusion The prevalence of good patient safety culture was relatively low. Patient safety culture difference is observed between government and private healthcare providers. Type of hospitals (public or private), profession, job satisfaction, participation in patient safety programs, providing necessary equipment and materials, and work shifts were associated factors for patient safety culture. Therefore, it is better to design patient safety improvement strategies for both government and private healthcare providers.

... Accessing a wider range of valuable information leads to effective handling of business changes at greater speed, and increasing the organisational productivity of workers effectively and efficiently (Young-Harry et al, 2018). Therefore, Risk Management Information System (RMIS) is a computerized system used for data collection and processing, information analysis and generation of statistical trend reports for the identification and monitoring of events, claims and finances (Alam, 2016). Another perspective on the definition of a risk management information system is provided by Sutejo, Prasetijo and Agushybana (2021). ...

This study extends the literature on Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) by investigating the role of internal environment component of ERM on performance in the context of insurance companies in Nigeria. Further, the moderating role of risk management information system in the relationship is examined. This study adopts a quantitative research approach and focuses on the top management of insurance companies in Lagos and Abuja. The research populations are top management of insurance companies. The study gathered data from a total of 66 respondents through census sampling. Structural Equation Modelling using Smart-PLS 4 was then used to test the hypothesized relationships. The results show a positive effect of internal environment on insurance company performance and that risk management information system strengthens the relationship between internal environment and insurance company performance. This research emphasizes the significance of prioritizing the internal environment component of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) as an effective business strategy for adapting to evolving risks and uncertainties in society. To the best of our knowledge, this study represents one of the initial attempts to establish a connection between the internal environment component of ERM and the performance of insurance companies in Nigeria. Limited research exists on the role of a risk management information system as a moderator in this relationship, particularly in developing countries like Nigeria. Insurance companies should focus on integrating their internal environment with the risk management information systems. This integration can be achieved by aligning risk management practices, policies, and procedures with the capabilities of the information systems. Such integration can lead to better coordination, communication, and decision-making processes, resulting in improved overall performance. Events involving a high number of participants should be planned and implemented with the primary objective of guaranteeing the highest possible level of safety, which is ever more essential in the recent years due to the risk of terrorism, violence, and highly transmissible pathogens like coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The aim of this study was describing health care management of the Vasco Modena Park July 1, 2017 concert by the artist Vasco Rossi that involved 220,000 participants, more than doubling the population of Modena (Italy), the city hosting the event. Data were retrospectively collected from all health care registers used during the concert. Descriptive data regarding the event were recorded, as well as the medical records generated by the advanced medical posts. For analysis, patients were divided into two groups: the LOW-Severity (admission code green) and HIGH-Severity (admission codes yellow and red). The number of patients within the inclusion period was 1,088; there were 953 green discharge codes (97.74%), 16 yellow (1.64%), and six red (0.61%). Patients who needed a second-level assessment were 5.85% (57 events). HIGH-Severity patients needed to be further evaluated in 45.45% of the cases versus 4.93% of the LOW-Severity patient group (P value <.001). The health care management proved adequate to the number of participants and the severity of patients. Descriptive data reported add the mass-gathering database useful for further events.

Background: Patient safety involves identifying, assessing, and managing patient-related risks and occurrences to improve patient care and reduce patient harm. In Nigeria, there is a lack of studies on patient safety culture, especially in the northern part of the country. This study aimed to determine the levels and factors that contribute to nurses' negative perceptions of patient safety culture in public health facilities. Methodology: A total of 460 nurses were surveyed across 21 secondary health facilities using the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture, and the response rate was 93.5%. Descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression were used to analyze the data. Results: The results showed that 59.8% of the respondents were female, and 42.6% were within the age range of 30-39 years old. Most of them (48.3%) had spent 1-5 years working in the hospital. Three out of 12 composite measures had higher negative responses (staffing-30.5%, non-punitive response to error-42.8%, and frequency of events reported-43.1%). A multiple logistic regression analysis affirmed that all three variables, in addition to organizational learning, were significant associated with overall negative perceptions of patient safety culture, with 3.15, 1.84, 2.26, and 2.39 odds ratios, respectively. Conclusion: The results revealed that four critical areas of patient safety required improvement; therefore, intervention is recommended to minimize unnecessary patient harm and medical expenses.

Road accidents have claimed many lives with approximately 1.35 million deaths worldwide and deemed as a critical issue in most countries. Understanding the common factors that contribute to road accidents is not enough, and it is essential to assess the risk involved to prepare for precautionary actions. In this study, we utilize the autoregressive model and value at risk approach in predicting Malaysian road accidents occurrences and assessing the respective risk. We construct a current risk analysis theoretical framework pertain to the vehicle’s condition, forecast and investigate the relationship between the involved variables, and obtain the value at risk for road accidents. From our findings, the road accidents will increase 1.12% higher than the year 2019, along with a 2.77% increase in the number of transportations in 2020. In addition, there is a 95% confidence that in year 2020, the number of road accidents will reduce not more than 3.81%. Coherent from the analysis, there is a potential to adopt these approaches more extensively for this issue as the quantitative analysis are feasible. In addition, a strong positive relationship is found between the likelihood of road accidents and the number of transportations. Thus, prediction of road accidents and identification of its value at risk on yearly basis are beneficial to project the best course of action to deal with road accidents occurrences in the country.

Aim: Risk assessment is one of the important processes of risk management. This study aims to show how the financial risks encountered in hospitals are evaluated according to the risk management approach. Material and Methods: We used risk assessment tables for identifying the financial activities of healthcare organizations, L-type decision matrix for risk assessment, and financial risk ratio methods for enterprise performance indication. In compliance with the enterprise risk management guidelines, we collected qualitative data through an interview with the risk manager of a hospital and quantitative data was created and adapted by the authors. Results: According to the study sample, among the risks identified in the procurement process, the risk score of the risk 1 is 3, the risk score of the risk 3 is 4, and the risk score of risk number 4 is 2 points, and was found to be acceptable. The risk score for risk 2 is 10 points and was found to be remarkable. The financial risk ratio of the hospital is 0.10. Conclusion: In the financial risk assessment, the risks in the hospital’s procurement activities were determined as occurrence of public loss (No. 1), failure to procure the need (No. 2) and late procurement of the need (No. 4), which are all assessed as controllable risks. No. 4 is noteworthy enough to be distinguished from the other risks. Calculated financial risk ratios showed there were no risks for corporate performance of the healthcare organization in fulfilling the short-run obligations through its liquid assets.
