... This collection contains most of the types from the collection of Arthur and Gulielma Lister (Lado & Wrigley de Basanta 2018) and the legacy collection of H.J. Howard with important material from the U.K. and other countries, including specimens which were sent to him from other eminent collectors, and including potential type material. Here we present the fourth part of the results from a series of studies dedicated to specific groups of taxa (Moreno et al. 2018(Moreno et al. , 2020(Moreno et al. , 2022. We focus on species of the orders Physarales and Reticulariales in the genera Diachea, Diderma, Didymium, Physarum and Reticularia. ...

Light and scanning electron microscopy were applied to re-assess diagnostic characters of type specimens and critical specimens of Diachea radiata, D. splendens, D. subsessilis, Diderma arboreum, Didymium. laxifilum, D. leoninum var. effusum, D. trachysporum, D. trochus, Physarum bitectum, P. straminipes, Reticularia intermedia, R. jurana, R. liceoides, R. lobata and Wilczekia evelinae in the order Physarales and Reticulariales (Myxomycetes) from the collections at the Natural History Museum London (BM). The results were used to discuss published data and the type status for specimens studied.
... Scanning electronic microscope (SEM) images of the spores were obtained with a Zeiss-DSM 950 microscope. For this, the specimens were treated with the critical point technique following the protocol already described by MORENO et al. (2018MORENO et al. ( , 2020. ...

Macbrideola gallicola is described as a new species to science after studying specimens collected in France and Montenegro, fructifying on galls of Rosaceae. The new species can be distinguished by the loose and flexuous capillitium, the conspicuously, spiny spores, and by its habitat. Macro- and micrographs of the morphological characters are provided.

We followed the same protocols as described in Moreno et al. (2018Moreno et al. ( , 2020. The original boxes with fruiting bodies and substratum, and the preparations on glass slides for light microscopy received separate BM barcode numbers for future reference and easier traceability in the collection. ...

In two pilot studies we suggested that the observation of type specimens of Stemonitales by SEM will help to reveal inconsistencies between the historic and current interpretation of taxa in the order Stemonitales (Moreno et al. 2018(Moreno et al. , 2020. These pilot studies confirmed the importance of SEM studies for the correct interpretation of historic type material in this group of slime moulds. ...

The results were used to discuss published data and the type status for specimens of Arcyria imperialis, Hemitrichia chrysospora, H. intorta, H. karstenii, H. leiotricha, Perichaena cornuvioides, Prototrichia metallica, Trichia affinis, T. intermedia, T. munda and T. scabra. We conclude that Hemitrichia karstenii and Trichia contorta are autonomous species, and we confirm the synonymy of Trichia intermedia with Trichia contorta. The transfer of Perichaena cornuvioides to the genera Trichia or Hemitrichia is rejected.

Twenty-six collections of myxomycetes are reported from localities in northern Spain and southern France, representing nine species: Diderma alpinum , D. europaeum , D. fallax , D. meyerae , Lamproderma ovoideum , L. sauteri , Lepidoderma peyerimhoffii , Meriderma echinulatum , and Physarum vernum . The LM and SEM micrographs included illustrate the most representative characters of each species.
... Then, the microscopic characters were observed using Binocular microscope. The important characters for identification were following the description from (Moreno et al. 2020). ...
... All of Stemonitis species that have complete and clear morphological description as a correct species were used as the comparison for the identification. Based on Moreno et al. (2020), the clear species in Stemonitis were adopted in this study, such as Stemonitis ferruginea, S. flavogenita, S. fusca, S. virginiensis, S. pallida, S. inconspicua, S. herbatica, S. splendens, S. uvifera, and S. webberi. The species that have relation with the specimen Bogor2020 based on the critical character on spore ornamentation were used and continued to advance analysis for identification. ...
... Despite the molecular study is available to identify the Myxomycota specimen, the morphological study is still strongly enough to identify the Stemonitis until species. As the research from (Moreno et al 2020), the modern taxonomy in Stemonitales is strongly on morphological characters, such as spore size and spore ornamentation. Sometimes, the fine details of the capillitium and sporocarp were also important as the identification key in Stemonitales. ...

Slime molds, Myxomycetes, or Mycetozoa are Protozoan that produces fruiting body similar to micro-fungi. The fruiting bodies mostly are tiny goblets, globes, plumes, or other shapes that are difficult to characterize. In IPB University, many myxomycetes were found on the rotten wood. One of them is the Stemonitis specimen Bogor2020. The shape has an intricate form as a matchstick shape. The Stemonitis specimen Bogor2020 has a blackish stalk with 2-2.5 mm in height. The spore is finely globose with 6.7x6.7 µm in diameter, and with baculae ornamentation. The identification used morphological study using Numerical Taxonomy System (NTSys) software. Six species from Stemonitis (Stemonitis ferruginea, S. flavogenita, S. pallida, S. herbatica, S. splendens, and S. webberi) were used as Stemonitis references for SAHN cladogram. Ceratiomyxa arbuscula which is the same as the Myxomycetes group was chosen as an outgroup. The 30 biner data were used for the SAHN cladogram analysis. The SAHN cladogram shows that Stemonitis specimen Bogor2020 is classified as Stemonitis pallida. The main characters that strongly group them are spore surface, spore size, stalk color, and stalk size. Modern taxonomy in the Stemonitis genus is heavily reliant on morphological characters identification. Key word: Baculae, Mycetozoa, Stalk, Slime molds

The present survey is a preliminary study of the diversity of Myxomycetes occurring in the tropical dry evergreen forest vegetation of the southeastern coastal belt of India. A total of 11 taxa belonging to the orders Ceratiomyxales, Trichiales, Stemonitidales and Physarales were collected, studied, and described from this region. The identification was supported using both morphological and microscopic characters. Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa var. arbuscula, Arcyria insignis, Hemitrichia serpula, Stemonitis flavogenita, Physarum notabile, Fuligo septica var.candida, Fuligo septica var. septica, and Comatricha anomala are reported for the first time from Tamil Nadu, South India.
