A signal processing toolbox has been realized to enhance the acoustic signal processing of manufactured electronic systems. The toolbox contains a range of signal processing algorithms to help better differentiate the 3D scanned acoustic signals acquired from manufactured parts. The processing has been used to assess the through-life reliability of...

... b) Algorithm for surface objects reconstruction: There exist some possible algorithms to reconstruct surface objects from a volumetric dataset. Most of them are used for X-ray tomography but few available for acoustic imaging [6,7,8] . The most popular one is probably the "marching cubes" (MC) [6] that extracts iso-surfaces from a tomography dataset where the pixel intensity represents usually the ray absorption in material. ...

An acoustical imaging technique performing 3-dimentional (3D) reconstruction and visualization of materials was developed and used to evaluate delamination cracks in textile composites. The method is based on 2-dimentional (2D) mechanical scan combined with ultrasonic A-scan to obtain 3D volumetric data. The use of focus transducer working at high frequency (20MHz) allows the imaging of curved interfaces and woven structure of the composite with high contrast and resolution. An efficient and fast algorithm was proposed and implemented for the reconstruction of surface objects from 3D volumetric data, determined by the time peak value of A-scan pulses. Such representation makes clear distinction and observation of crack defects, especially delamination, from regular pattern of the composite. 2D textile composite plate samples (20x10x2mm ³ in size) were used for the imaging before and after impact loading test. The results show in detail an internal structure of [(0°/90°) 12K, (+45°,-45°) NCF, (-45°,+45°) NCF, (0°/90°) 3K]. The delamination fractures for samples after impact test can be precisely recognized and evaluated in their localization, size and shape.
... In this paper the authors are proposing the development of an Evolving Toolbox for System of Systems Engineering (SoSE) management. The notion of a toolbox has been around for a long time and in many domains, such as innovation [1], signal processing [2], control systems [3] and other fields. There are a multitude of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) tools available in Systems Engineering (SE) [4], and there have been many attempts to generate a toolbox for SE. ...
