Spreadsheet modeling courses are a common feature of business school curricula. We describe how a lab based spreadsheet modeling course was translated for online delivery. Both the online and lab based versions of the course were offered in the same semester, and we report encouraging results of a comparison of the two delivery modes with respect t...

Learning Management Systems (LMS) have become a common feature in contemporary higher education institutions globally. In recent years, LMS have been adopted in some higher education institutions in sub-Saharan Africa including Tanzania, however, there are limited research in this area, which could hinder future developments. Therefore, this study...

Model pengembangan ini dilakukan melalui 5 tahapan yaitu : (1) Requirement analysis and definitions; (2) System and software design; (3) Implementation and unit testing; (4) Integration and system testing; (5) Operation and maintenance.
... Thus, VRLs take advantage of the LMS capacity to support the virtual interaction among participants (students and teachers) by means of both synchronous (e. g., chat, videoconference...) and asynchronous (e. g., whiteboards, forums, mailing list...) collaboration tools. For instance, [36], [37], [38], [39], [40] integrate VRLs into Moodle, [41] into LADIRE, and [42] proposes a more general solution in which VRLs can be integrated into many LMSs. 2) Embedding VRLs into virtual worlds. ...

Web-based labs are key tools for distance education that help to illustrate scientific phenomena which require costly or difficult-to-assemble equipment. Easy Java Simulations (EJS) is an authoring tool that speeds up the creation of that kind of labs. An excellent proof of the EJS potential is the Open Source Physics (OSP) repository, which hosts hundreds of free EJS labs. Learning management systems, such as Moodle, provide social contexts where students interact with each other. The work described in this paper looks for the synergy of both tools, EJS and Moodle, by supporting the deployment of EJS labs into Moodle and thus enriching them with social features (e.g., chat, forums, videoconference, etc.). To test this approach, the authors have created the ball and beam lab, which helps students of automatic control engineering to train different advanced techniques (robust, fuzzy and reset control), and compare their performance in relation to a conventional proportional-integral-derivative control.
... Since the two previous tools (web-based labs and LMSs) are complementary, there have been several interesting works in relation to the conjunction of these two elements. For instance, [4], [5], [6], [7] integrate web-based labs into Moodle, [8] into LADIRE, and [9], [10] in many different LMS. However, the main concern of most of the previous works is to make labs accessible from the LMS, and many of them provide few additional benefits from this integration. ...

Virtual and remote laboratories (VRLs) are e-learning resources that enhance the accessibility of experimental setups providing a distance teaching framework which meets the student's hands-on learning needs. In addition, online collaborative communication represents a practical and a constructivist method to transmit the knowledge and experience from the teacher to students, overcoming physical distance and isolation. This paper describes the extension of two open source tools: (1) the learning management system Moodle, and (2) the tool to create VRLs Easy Java Simulations (EJS). Our extension provides: (1) synchronous collaborative support to any VRL developed with EJS (i.e., any existing VRL written in EJS can be automatically converted into a collaborative lab with no cost), and (2) support to deploy synchronous collaborative VRLs into Moodle. Using our approach students and/or teachers can invite other users enrolled in a Moodle course to a real-time collaborative experimental session, sharing and/or supervising experiences at the same time they practice and explore experiments using VRLs.

The teaching and learning process in the laboratory is different from theory classes. The students get better knowledge and understanding of the concept when they perform experiments in the laboratory. The hands-on practice will help the students to remember the concept. However, the lack of facilities and limitations in the laboratory infrastructure may affect the student learning process. In India, few technical institutions lack adequate laboratory facilities, and hence, the government of India has started a new initiative called the virtual laboratory to overcome this issue. The Government of India provided funding to the premier institutions in India to establish virtual laboratory facilities to help the institutions which do not have sophisticated laboratory facilities. The advancement in IT and internet facilities helps this initiative. In this chapter, basics of virtual laboratories, different types of virtual laboratories, impact of virtual laboratories in students learning process, opportunities, and limitations of the virtual laboratories were discussed.
