The digital transformation era increases population health risks associated with lack of exercise, as well as emphasizes the role of an active lifestyle within sustainable socio-economic development. Digitalization is one of the main reasons for setting significant public health priorities: poor or insufficient sleep and physical inactivity. The aim of the research was to study the physical activity (PA), sedentary behaviour (SB) and sleep duration of the population measured by a tri-axial accelerometer. Methods: The study is based on the project “EUPASMOS”, where PA, SB, and sleep-time of the participants (n = 369) was measured 24/7 by a tri-axial accelerometer (UKK RM42, UKK Terveyspalvelut Oy, Tampere, Finland) for a week-long period. The participants mostly spent their waking hours in a sedentary state. The mean duration of sedentary behaviour was 7h 52min. The participants took an average of 9584 steps a day. They also engaged in light PA for 4h 15min, and moderate-to-vigorous PA for 1h 16min. The mean duration of sleep was 5h 46min. The results showed that the insufficient sleep and physical inactivity of the participants are serious health risks in the digital transformation era. Future research should focus on the effect that various components of physical activity (dose, mode, timing) have on sleep.

Background: Sub-fertility is one of the leading health issues with its economic and social implications in Sri Lanka and changes in lifestyles of the people have a great impact on it.Objective: To determine the association between selected lifestyle factors and sub-fertility among women in the Regional Director of Health Service area, Colombo.Methods: A case control study was conducted among sub-fertile (n=170) and fertile (n=340) women as case and control respectively. A pre-tested, structured interviewer administered questionnaire, which underwent face, content validity and reliability (Cronbach’s alpha= 0.8) was used. Chi-square, Mann-Whitney, two-way ANOVA, independent sample t- test and odds ratio (OR) were performed.Results: The mean age at marriage was 25.1±3.1 years and 26.5±3 years for fertile and sub-fertile women, respectively. Level of education of both groups was not significantly different (p= 0.120, 95% CI). Islamic women have high fertility than others. Vigorous physical activities were significantly high among sub-fertile women (p=0.000; 95%CI 1.08-1.59). OR for passive smoking for fertile women was 1.3, (95%CI). Sub-fertile women experienced a lack of full restful sleep than fertile women (p=0.001, 95%CI) and majority of sub-fertile women (63.8%) recorded high levels of stress.Conclusion: Vigorous physical activities, exposure to passive smoking, lack of full restful sleep, and having high levels of stress have the negative effects on fertility. Therefore, counselling sessions for the sub-fertile couples and a sensitization programme for newly married couples on lifestyle factors by the primary health care staff are recommended.

Background: Sleep quality is known to affect automatic and executive brain functions such as gait control and cognitive processing. This study aimed to investigate the effect of dual tasks on gait spatiotemporal parameters among young adults with good and poor sleep quality. Methods: In total, 65 young adults with a mean age of 21.1 ± 2.5 were assessed for gait analysis during single-task and dual-task conditions. The participants’ sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and gait was assessed using the BTS Gaitlab System. The participants were asked to walk at natural speed as a single-task condition, followed by walking while performing a cognitive task as a dual-task condition. The parameters assessed included the gait velocity (m/s), cadence (steps/min), step width (m), and stride length (m). The dual-task cost (DTC) on each gait parameter was calculated. The Mann–Whitney U test was used to compare the differences in the DTC on gait variables between the good and poor sleep quality groups and the Spearman correlation test was used to assess the correlation between total PSQI scores and the DTC. Results: At a significance level of p < 0.05, a significant difference in cadence between the two sleep quality groups was observed, in addition to a positive correlation between sleep quality and the DTC effect on gait mean velocity, cadence, and stride length. Our findings also revealed a greater DTC in participants with poorer sleep quality. Conclusions: These findings contribute to our perception of the significance of sleep quality in gait performance while multitasking in younger populations.

Objectives: This study investigated the association between sex and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) based on employment status. Methods: This was a population-based cross-sectional study. Data were collected from 1,996,153 adults aged ≥ 19 years who participated in the Korea Community Health Survey from 2011 to 2019. Low HRQoL was classified based on separate cutoff points (males: 0.92, females: 0.90) on the European Quality of Life-5 Dimensions index. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs), 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: From 2011 to 2019, the trend of the prevalence of low HRQoL levels was consistently high in the order of unemployed males, unemployed females, employed males, and employed females. Regarding the regional distribution of unemployed males, the prevalence of low HRQoL was between 29.5% and 43.5%. Unemployed males had a higher prevalence of low HRQoL (OR: 1.15, 95% CI: 1.12–1.24) than employed males. Conclusions: This study suggested that the prevalence of low HRQoL levels among unemployed males was consistently high at the annual trend and regional levels. Further research considering comprehensive health determinants and multi-dimensional public health interventions is required to prevent the transition from unemployment to the deterioration of HRQoL.

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of poor sleep and factors associated with it among medical and dental students in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Materials and Methods: A population-based analytical cross-sectional study was carried out from May to September 2022, consisting of 385 undergraduate students from 21 medical and dental colleges. A non-probability convenience sampling technique was employed to assess sleep quality with the help of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Factors associated with poor sleep were determined using binary logistic regression. Results: Among the total, 263 (68.3%) students had poor sleep quality on the PSQI scale. Poor sleep was more likely (OR [95%CI]) among females (2.3 [1.3-3.9]), age≥21years (2.5 [1.1-5.8]), pre-clinical phase (3.1 [1.4-6.5]), BDS students (2.0 [1.1-3.5]), disrupted circadian rhythm (4.2 [2.0-8.6]), and hostelites (1.7 [1.0-2.9]) at signifi cance of P<0.05. Participants' per day sleep was 5.9hrs (SD=1.2hrs). Regarding PSQI components, the worst performance was noticed in sleep duration (M=1.60, SD=0.95). Of the total, 47 (12.2%) were taking sleep medications, 377 (97.9%) had bedtime phone usage and 242 (62.8%) had no familiarity with "Sleep hygiene". Conclusion: Findings revealed that poor sleep was prevalent in more than half of the participants. Average sleep duration was suggestive of sleep deprivation indicating for immediate interventions to prevent its potential consequences.

Background Daily time spent in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), light-intensity physical activity (LIPA), sedentary behaviour (SB) and sleep (collectively known as ‘movement behaviours’) are compositional, co-dependent variables. However, most studies examining effects of these behaviours on depression outcomes in older adults do not account for this. Study objectives were to use compositional data analysis methods to (1) examine the relationship between movement behaviour composition (daily time spent in MVPA, LIPA, SB, sleep) and depression symptoms, (2) estimate the extent to which changing time spent in any given movement behaviour within the movement behaviour composition was associated with changes in depression symptoms. Methods 5643 older Canadian adults ≥ 65 years of age from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging were studied using a quasi-longitudinal study design. Exposure was baseline daily movement behaviours; time spent in MVPA, LIPA and SB were derived from self-reported Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly responses. Night-time sleep was self-reported separately. Outcome was depression symptoms at follow-up obtained using the ten item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale. Compositional data analysis was used to investigate associations between movement behaviours and depression symptoms. Results Movement behaviour composition was significantly associated with depression symptoms. Time spent in MVPA [exp(B) = 0.97 (95% CI: 0.94, 0.99)] and sleep [exp(B) = 0.91 (95% CI: 0.85, 0.97)] relative to the remaining movement behaviours were associated with lower depression symptoms scores. Relative time spent in SB was associated with higher depression symptoms scores [exp(B) = 1.09 (95% CI: 1.04, 1.15)]. Time displacement estimates revealed that the greatest change in depression symptoms scores occurred when time spent in MVPA was decreased and replaced with LIPA, SB, sleep or combination of these behaviours (+ 0.22 to 0.26 points increase on depression symptoms scores for 30 min/day displacements). Conclusions Daily movement behaviour composition was associated with depression symptoms in older Canadians. Replacing time in MVPA with equivalent time from any other behaviour was associated with increased depression symptoms. Preserving time spent in MVPA may play a key role in mitigating and improving mental health in this demographic.

p> Background: The environment in medical college itself is recognized as inherently stressful. The competitive atmosphere, constant evaluations, and high expectations can contribute to a feeling of constant pressure and anxiety among students. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the learning and relaxation techniques adopted by high-achieving medical students . Methods: It was a cross-sectional study completed in six months duration. A self-designed, customized and experts validated questionnaire was used to collect data from consecutive medical students who scored above 70% in their professional exams and were enrolled in a five-year MBBS program of Central Park Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan. . The data were analyzed using statistical software and the percentages of responses were calculated by keeping the power of study at 80%. Background Low-quality sleep and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can result in series of chronic diseases. Healthy diet has been considered as an effective and simple strategy to optimize sleep quality. However, current evidence on the correlation of dietary composite antioxidant intake with sleep health remained obscure. Aim of the study To determine the relationship of composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI) and sleep health. Methods Cross-sectional analyses were based on National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2005–2008. Dietary consumption was assessed by trained staff using 24-h diet recall method and CDAI was calculated based on previous validated approach that included six antioxidants. Sleep-related outcomes were self-reported by a set of questionnaires and classified into OSA, day sleepiness, and insufficient sleep. Weighted logistic regression was conducted to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Restricted cubic spline (RCS) regressions were also used to evaluate the dose-response of CDAI and three sleep-related outcomes. Results A total of 7274 subjects included (mean age: 46.97 years) were enrolled in our study, including 3658 were females (52.54%) and 3616 were males (47.46%). Of them, 70.6%, 29.51%, and 35.57% of the subjects reported that they had OSA, day sleepiness and insufficient sleep, respectively. Logistic regression showed the highest quartile of CDAI was inversely associated with the risk of OSA (OR: 0.69, 95%CI: 0.49–0.97), day sleepiness (OR: 0.64, 95%CI: 0.44–0.94) and insufficient sleep (OR: 0.68, 95%CI: 0.50–0.92) compared with the lowest quartile. RCS showed linear relationship of CDAI and insufficient sleep but non-linear relationship of CDAI with OSA and day sleepiness. Conclusions Our results show that CDAI was non-linearly associated with lower risk of OSA and day sleepiness whereas a linear inverse association between CDAI and insufficient sleep was observed. These findings implicate that combined intake of antioxidants could be a promising and effective approach to optimize sleep quality for public.
