Sill emplacement through a lateral feeder dike. The picture originates from Carey (1958). Consistent with the hypothesis of an intrusion, the ICE Geology group in Costa Rica modelled in Hackanson et al. (2019) for the PGP-35 well projection a correncite mineral pattern contour similar to the one suggested by Iyer et al. (2013). This hints at a possible contact metamorphism evidence, such as the one presumed to be attributed to the presence of a sill intrusion.

This work focuses on the most appropriate geothermal exploration and development strategies of the Borinquen Geothermal Project in Costa Rica. High-enthalpy geothermal reservoirs in a volcanic geothermal play type require an accurate comprehension of the key site-specific geological structures such as faults related to volcano-tectonic activity, ca...

We describe the three-dimensional magnetotelluric modeling results of Laguna Colorada - Sol de Mañana geothermal field in SW Bolivia. It is located near Laguna Colorada in the foothills of the Western Cordillera of the Andes and at the margin of the Altiplano-Puna Magma Body (APMB), which is characterized by a vast electrical conductivity anomaly and corresponding seismic anomalies in the mid and deep crust. The magnetotelluric (MT) data comprising 70 stations were modeled by a 3-D inversion. The final model shows a broad conductor at a few hundred meters in depth, which we interpret as the confining cap layer. Beneath, equally widespread, a layer of intermediate resistivity marks the high-temperature hydrothermal reservoir. Detailed interpretation of MT data with information from existing wells suggests a potential for a high-enthalpy geothermal field.
