La pandemia por COVID19 ha evidenciado las profundas desigualdades entre países y regiones, trastocando profundamente la economía global. Por ello, retomar la discusión de la relevancia de implementar Zonas Económicas Especiales (ZEE) en México como una política pública de efectividad probada para afrontar los retos de la actual situación económica mundial. Se realizó un análisis documental en investigaciones que estudian el efecto de las ZEE en la movilidad social, identificando factores recurrentes. Se procedió a realizar un análisis de correlación, para determinar la relación entre la cantidad de ZEE, la riqueza y la desigualdad. Los resultados muestran que las ZEE contribuyen a la generación de riqueza, pero no en la misma medida a la reducción de la desigualdad.
