The perceived interactions, induction and assimilation between colours presented on a computer screen were investigated for seven participants who gave estimates on the perceived colours. A method based on memory estimation was used. In one experiment, a red – green scale was used, while in a second experiment a white – green scale was used. The di...

... scales were used for each of the two experiments. The first scale used red at one end of the scale and green at the other end of the scale (see figure 3). The second scale had a low saturation of green at one end of the scale and a high saturation of green at the other end of the scale (see figure 4). ...

In this paper we present the simplest possible color balance algorithm. The assumption underlying this algorithm is that the highest values of R, G, B observed in the image must correspond to white, and the lowest values to obscurity. The algorithm simply stretches, as much as it can, the values of the three channels Red, Green, Blue (R, G, B), so...

Due to the wide use of screen colors today, our research discusses the limit value of Landolt-C ring and selects the four screen color Landolt-C ring with consistent differentiation abilities. Experiment results show that regarding Landolt-C ring color samples with saturation differences, the four samples of red R2 (H: 0°,S: 70%, B: 100%), green G7...

This research shows the effect of simultaneous contrast on a design solution that generates it, and it also shows how its manifestation affects the shift of perception attributes of the observer's color. In the conducted research, 55 subjects had to harmonize the primary stimuli from the reproduction obtained with the help of digital printing technology, with the primary stimuli presented on two computer screens. As a visual harmonization technique, simultaneous binocular harmonization was used. The primary stimuli were made achromatic, with a 50% Raster Tone value (RTV), and are surrounded by achromatic secondary stimuli whose values increase in steps from 10% RTV up to 100% RTV. A shift in the perceptual attributes of color has been shown with the help of the CIEDE2000 system. Using ANOVA with repeated‐measures and Fisher's post hoc analysis, statistically significant differences were found between the perceived means of shift in the ΔC00 chroma and ΔL00 lightness on defined samples on both computer screens, while in the case of the ΔH00 hue, no statistically significant differences were observed. The research also determined colorimetric differences in the ΔE00 color difference. Moreover, the student's t test was used to determine that the effect is stronger when manifested on the Lenovo computer than on the Asus computer screen (P < .05).

The generation of digital information is continuing at an accelerated pace, and the exploration of relationships within such enormous volumes of data is becoming increasingly difficult. Information visualization methods directly address the requirements of human perception to help users analyze complex relationships, and graphical hierarchy trees are employed to present the results. Conventional methods only provide a fixed degree of detail, despite the requirements of users to alter the manner in which data is viewed. Magic Eye View, a well-known information visualization tool, incorporates a three-dimensional interactive function allowing users to control the degree of detail with which they view data. Unfortunately, this system fails to provide a number of crucial focus + context features. To address these shortcomings, we propose a novel 3D information visualization method that enables users to control the focus point three-dimensionally and view the information at a preferred degree of detail. It also provides crucial focus + context features that help users to comprehend the data. Simulation results have shown significant advantages over existing approaches through the incorporation of these crucial features.

Although the influence of colour on size perception has been known for a century, there is only limited research on interventions that can reduce this effect. This study was therefore undertaken in order to identify appropriate interventions and propose design guidelines for information visualisation, especially in applications where size judgement is critical. The colour size illusion was replicated on an LCD monitor, revealing that yellow images appeared the smallest among a series of red, yellow, green and blue images on a white background. Three types of interventions (background brightness, border colour and background grid brightness) were tested to identify conditions that reduce the colour illusions, but none proved to be statistically significant. Based on these experimental results and an extensive literature survey, a set of design guidelines is proposed to enhance the usability of LCD monitors and a set of design recommendations given to extend these guidelines to applications in the field of bioinformatics. These design recommendations are accompanied by an evaluation of effectiveness obtained by interviewing domain experts.
