A new fuzzy system is proposed in this paper. The novelty of the proposed system is mainly in the compound of the antecedents, which is based on the proposed rectangular pyramid membership function instead of t-norm. It is proved that the system is capable of approximating any continuous function of two variables to arbitrary degree on a compact do...

Rectification is a complicated process which involves nonlinear effects of the diode. Yoo's model is commonly used in the design of rectifiers. Though simple, its prediction can be sometimes off from reality. In this paper, we propose to improve Yoo's model to accurately predict the behavior of single-diode rectification process. Two assumptions in...

Rank correlation is invariant to bijective marginal transformations, but it is not immune to confounding. Assuming a categorical confounding variable is observed, the author proposes weighted coefficients of correlation for continuous variables developed within a larger framework based on copulas. While the weighting is clear under the assumption t...

This paper is concerned with the fault estimation problem for a class of Takagi–Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with actuator faults and sensor disturbances. Premise variables of the T-S fuzzy systems are assumed to be unmeasurable such that conventional parallel distributed compensation (PDC) methods are not applicable. A modified adaptive observer is...

In the present paper we address the real-time detection problem of a change-point in the coefficients of a linear model with the possibility that the model errors are asymmetrical and that the explanatory variables number is large. We build test statistics based on the cumulative sum (CUSUM) of the expectile function derivatives calculated on the r...

This article discusses the stochastic models of replacement of a component which is done immidiately when the component fails. Some random variables involving this process are the interarrival times (T n)-which are the interval times between two consecutive failures, the time when the nth failure occurs (S n), and the number of renewals up to time...

... When constructing a rule-base for FLC, the rule-base must cover all possible situations that may be encountered by the system and there must be no conflicts between the rules. In other words, any designed rule-base for FLC should adhere to the properties of completeness, consistency, consistence and continuity [64], [70], [73], [74]. ...

The use of Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) as speed controller for Induction Motor (IM) drives is garnering strong researchers’ interest since it has proven to achieve superior performance compared to conventional controllers. The aim of this study is to review and investigate the design, operations, and effects of rules reduction for FLC in IM drives. Based on the literature, the most commonly used technique to design FLC Membership Functions (MFs) rule-base and control model is based on engineering skills and experienced behavioral aspects of the controlled system. Simplified fuzzy rules approaches have been introduced to reduce the number of fuzzy rules in order to realize hardware implementation. This study discusses different simplified rules methods applied to IM drives. Most of the proposed methods shared a common drawback in that they lacked systematic procedures for designing FLC rule base. Therefore, this research proposed a methodological approach to designing and simplifying the FLC rule-base for IM drives based on dynamic step response and phase plane trajectory of the second order representation of IM drives systems. The proposed method presents guidance for designing FLC rule-base based on general dynamic step response of the controlled system. Following the proposed method procedures, a (9, 25, 49) rules size has been designed and simplified to a (5, 7, 9) rules size. The effectiveness and accuracy of the designed rules as well as the simplified rules were verified by conducting simulation analysis of IM drives using MATLAB/Simulink environment. Step speed command performance comparisons were achieved with both standard designed and simplified rules at various speed demands. The simulation results showed that the simplified rules maintain the drive performance and produced similar behavior as the standard designed rules.

El consumo de energía en América del Norte: visualización y perspectiva piramidal 1 ORCID 0000-0002-4126-3603; Abstract The goal is to visualize and simulate energy consumption in North America, using four-sided pyramids where the base polygon is made up of four points of non-renewable consumption, and the cusp represented by the apex or higher point, corresponds to consumption or renewable alternatives. It begins with the history of the world´s energy consumption, following the literatures review about proposals related to demand of oil and derivatives. Subsequently the methodology and simulation is presented finding in the results that reducing consumption of medium refinement products and fuels, would cause more height at the top of the pyramids, interpreted as increasing of renewable energies.

A new kind of fuzzy modeling method to construct an approximate solution to a differential equation is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is based on the interpolation mechanism of rectangular pyramid fuzzy system and ends up with a solution to a nonlinear differential equation with variable coefficients. The proposed fuzzy modeling method is applied to model time-invariant second-order freedom movement systems, so a new input–output model and a new state-space model are constructed, respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed modeling method is effective in approximating the original system.
