In this paper we investigate the design and operating principle of a pattern reconfigurable multi-mode slot antenna with a hybrid feed. The slot antenna is excited by an orthogonal arrangement of a co-planar waveguide (CPW) fed circular disc and a microstrip fed square patch. The design objective is to be able to change the direction of the main lo...

... elements are well matched at the operating frequency of 3.1 GHz with a return loss better than −17dB. The radiation pattern for the individually fed antenna is shown in Figure 3 and 4 for a phase shift at the microstrip fed patch of 90° and 270° respectively. It can be seen that the direction of the main lobe is changed by 90° in the azimuth plane. ...

This paper presents an absorptive microstrip-fed slot antenna with a wide reflectionless band and high radiation efficiency. The proposed antenna consists of a microstrip-fed slot antenna, a quarter-wavelength coupled-line bandstop filter (BSF), and absorptive resistors attached to a grounding pad. The BSF and absorptive resistors are connected to...

Based on the C-shaped microstrip slot antenna, a new photonic band gap substrate for multifrequency microstrip slot antenna is designed. The antenna has a groove been dug below the radiation plate, within which the radiation plate is placed, and air triangular prism column gaps with different height are placed in the substrate periodically. Numeric...

This paper deals with a robust RFSID (RF Self IDentification) system for autonomous logistic applications. The RFSID based system operates in Ku-band and consists of a fixed transmitter, located along the path, and of a receiver unit placed on the moving target. A slotted waveguide antenna array is used to illuminate the moving object at the desire...

In this article, a compact fully planar high gain antenna based on half‐mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) cavity is presented. The design uses a novel configuration of HMSIW cavity with high length to width ratio along with tapered open edge and a pair of slot stub. The high length to width ratio of the cavity helps to excite closely spac...

Cognitive Radios (CR) are a concept of radios endowed with an intelligence that allows them to perceive changes in their environment and adapt their parameters to maintain a quality of Service (QoS). While the parameters concerned by the adaptation enclose theoretically all of those of a radio (modulation, coding, ...etc.), it is certainly the chan...

A simple pattern reconfigurable printed inverted-F antenna is presented for WLAN applications. The proposed low profile monopole antenna consists of one main radiator and one parasitic element. The antenna is capable of switching both the pattern and polarization across the full 205 MHz bandwidth, using only one PIN diode. The measured gain for the ON and OFF modes are 1.2 dBi and 4.2 dBi, respectively. The operating mechanism is described, and key antenna parameters are studied and optimized. The envelope correlation coefficient is used to evaluate the switched pattern diversity.
