The fourth and fifth pereiopods resemble the third in shape, but the carpus and ischium are slightly shorter, and the protuberance of the dactyls is more pronounced (fig. 9C, D, E, F). The telson has two pairs of dorso-lateral spines, the anterior pair is situated behind the middle of the telson, the posterior pair is halfway between the first p i r and the distal margin of the telson. The present paper reports for the first time on the occurrence of the oriental shrimp Palaemon macrodactylus M. J. Rathbun, 1902 in the coastal waters of the Baltic Sea in 2014. Ovigerous females and young individuals were found, indicating a possible establishment of this species in the Baltic Sea.

... Pseudocoutierea Holthuis, 1951 is a genus of symbiotic palaemonid shrimp known from tropical waters in the East Pacific, West Atlantic and the Cape Verde Islands in the East Atlantic, hosted by gorgonians and antipatharians. Seven species have been described (De Grave & Fransen 2011;Ramos-Tafur & Lemaitre 2016): P. elegans Holthuis, 1951 from the East-Pacific living on gorgonians in depths between 36 and 91 meters (Holthuis 1951); P. antillensis Chace, 1972 from the Caribbean also living on gorgonians in shallow water at a depth of 13 meters (Chace 1972); P. conchae Criales, 1981 from the Caribbean coast of Colombia living on gorgonians and antipatharians at depths between 13 and 30 meters; P. edentata Criales, 1981 also from the Caribbean coast of Colombia living on gorgonians and antipatharians at 13 m depth; P. wirtzi d'Udekem d'Acoz, 2000, known from the Cape Verde Islands in the East Atlantic living on gorgonians and antipatharians between depths of 20 and 30 meters; P. dotae De Grave, 2007 from the Caribbean coast of Panama living on an antipatharian host at a depth of 15 meters; and P. stephanieae Ramos-Tafur & Lemaitre, 2016 from the southwest coast of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico at a depth of 83 to 91 meters, with a yet unknown host. ... De Grave (2007) and Ramos & Lemaitre (2016) used the placement of the dorsal tooth on the third pleonite (in midlength or distally) to distinguish P. elegans and P. conchae. This character seems only based on the drawing of the pleonal somites in the species description of P. conchae (Criales, 1981, Fig. 6C). Upon closer examination of the holotype of P. conchae, the tooth on the third pleonite was found to be in roughly the same place as the same tooth in other Pseudocoutierea species (Fig. 5C, D). ...

A collection of shrimp from deep reefs in the Dutch Caribbean is described. Most material originates from the Bonaire deep reef expedition (2013) by Wageningen Marine Research of Wageningen University. Some additional material was available from dives on Curaçao (2014). A new species of Pseudocoutierea Holthuis was recognized in the material collected off Bonaire. The new species is described and illustrated and its position in the phylogeny of the genus Pseudocoutierea analyzed. A key to the species in the genus is presented.
... A recent study of a portion of the caridean shrimps obtained during the summer SEAMAP cruise of 2014 off the west coast of Florida, revealed an unusual specimen of Pseudocoutierea Holthuis, 1951, which did not match any of the descriptions of the six species known to date of this genus (Holthuis 1952;Chace 1972;Criales 1981;d'Udekem d'Acoz 2001;De Grave 2007). Criales (1981: 167) did indicate 35 years ago that two species from the eastern Gulf of Mexico were being described at the time by R.W. Heard, but to date no such descriptions have been published. ...
... In all species of Pseudocoutierea except P. stephanieae sp. nov., the carapace is depressed or dorsoventrally flattened, a morphological feature that appears to be an adaptation to a mode of life appressed to the surface of branches of gorgonians or antipatharians (Criales 1981;d'Udekem d'Acoz 2001;Wirtz & d'Udekem d'Acoz 2001;De Grave 2007). In contrast, the carapace in P. stephanieae n. sp. is subovate in cross-section, not depressed, possibly as result of life in association with different type of symbionts than used by its congeners. ...

A new species of symbiotic palaemonid shrimp of the genus Pseudocoutierea Holthuis, 1951, is described based on a specimen collected in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, off the southwest coast of Florida. Pseudocoutierea stephanieae sp. nov., is the seventh known in this genus, and morphologically most similar to P. antillensis Chace, 1972, and P. conchae Criales, 1981, from the western Atlantic, and P. elegans Holthuis, 1952, from the eastern Pacific, all sharing an expanded rostral base or eaves that terminate supra-distally in an acute tooth. This new species can be separated by: the presence of an epigastric knob or tubercle on the anterior mid-dorsal third of the carapace, which is absent in all other congeneric spe-cies; the shape of the pterygostomial sinus, which is shallow in this new species, whereas it is deep and well defined in all other congeneric species. An updated dichotomous key to species of Pseudocoutierea is presented.

The subfamily Pontoniinae is represented by 116 genera in the world, of which Ancylomenes, Cuapetes, Holthuisaeus, Lipkebe, Neopontonides, Periclimenaeus, Periclimenes, Pontonia, Pseudocoutierea, Pseudopontonides, Typton, and Urocaris occur in Brazilian coast waters. This study presents distributional information, currents taxonomic and an identification key for species of Pontoniinae that occur in Brazilian coast.

ABSTRACT A new genus is proposed for Izucaris masudai, new species, a pontoniid shrimp associated with the sea anemone Nemanthus nitidus. Izucaris, new genus, is closely related to the genus Pontonides sensu stricto, but distinguished by the rostrum overreaching the midlength level of the distal peduncular article of the antennule, the pterygostomian margin distinctly tapering anteriorly, and the lack of a distinct protrusion on the medial margin of the dactyl of the second maxilliped. The type species is described and illustrated based on a male and a female collected from Izu Peninsula, Honshu, Japan. The color pattern of the new species may show a chromatic adaptation.

Of 305 colonies of the slimy sea plume Pseudopterogorgia americana Gmelin, 1791 sampled at Pine Gay, Turks and Caicos Islands (British West Indies), 277 contained at least 1 caridean shrimp. Sampling occurred over 4 seasons at depths of 1.8 to 43.3 m. The 2639 shrimps (including identifiable fragments) comprised 9 species. The predominant species in descending numbers were Pseudocoutierea antillensis Chace, 1972, Hippolyte nicholsoni Chace, 1972, Periclimenes sp. A, and Periclimenes patae Heard & Spotte, 1991. Populations of all 4 varied significantly by depth, but only the numbers of P. antillensis varied seasonally. Species diversity did not vary seasonally but was affected significantly by depth. Species abundance was unaffected by either season or depth. Females of the 4 principal species are ovigerous throughout the year. The disproportionate abundance of nonovigerous P. antillensis in spring could indicate variable seasonal reproduction.
