Although the question is still debated, recent studies by Robert Coates-Stephens lead us to credit Honorius with increasing the height of the walls, which would have almost doubled their total height (AD 403), as already proposed by Colini and Cozza (Cozza 1987 25-26;Coates-Stephens 1998 166-167; fig. 3).
