An accurate model of IEEE 802.11e EDCA for video quality analysis is introduced in this paper. The analysis of the model considers not only the effects of collision loss from channel access competition but also wireless loss caused by interferences and fading. Using the model, we derive the video frame loss probability and distribution of access de...

... MPEG-4 coding, the video sequence can be decomposed into smaller units, GOP (Group of Pictures). A GOP pattern G(N, M ) is characterized by two parameters: where N is the I-to-I frame distance and M is the I-to-P frame distance (as shown in Fig. 2). According to the coding relation, in MPEG-4 video stream the most important video type is the I- frame, with the P-frame being more important than B-frame. The impact of a lost B-frame is only for itself, but a loss of I or P-frame may cause more than one frame or even a whole GOP to be destroyed. For simplicity, we do not consider ...

A new model is required for wireless Bluetooth technology that enhances media streaming between different devices. This paper presents a novel system that utilises the intermediate protocol L2CAP and a newly proposed integrated buffering architecture to stream media file via Bluetooth technology that is called 'mBlueThunder'. The new system overcom...

This paper describes the design and implementation of a staggered adaptive forward error correction (FEC) system for video multicast over wireless LANs, in which the original video stream and its additional parity packet streams generated by a cross-packet FEC code are transmitted in different IP multicast groups. The FEC streams are delayed from t...

Three-dimensional (3D) video is expected to be a "killer app" for OFDMA-based broadband wireless systems. The main limitation of 3D video streaming over a wireless system is the shortage of radio resources due to the large size of the 3D traffic. This paper presents a novel resource allocation strategy to address this problem. In the paper, the vid...

We demonstrate an adaptive bandwidth-efficient 360 VR video streaming system based on MPEG-DASH SRD. We extend MPEG-DASH SRD to the 3D space of 360 VR videos, and showcase a dynamic view-aware adaptation technique to tackle the high bandwidth demands of streaming 360 VR videos to wireless VR headsets. We spatially partition the underlying 3D mesh i...

Studies have shown that video streaming is one of the prominent cellular applications. Apart from improved network capacity, its growth is also catalysed by usage of smart-devices. It is therefore important for service providers to understand how key characteristics of smart devices, network and video simultaneously influence users' Quality of Expe...
