A taxonomic revision of the propaguliferous species of Pohlia (Bryaceae, Bryophyta) in Latin America. A taxonomic and descriptive study of the propaguliferous species of the genus Pohlia with axillary and rhizoidal bulbils from Central and South America is presented. Six species with axillary gemmae and one with rhizoidal tubers are recognized in t...

... Suárez and Schiavone (2011a) meticulously compared the taxonomically important characters of American Pohlia species in habits and morphology of stems, leaves, perichaetial leaves, setae, stomas, peristome and annulus. They revised the propaguliferous species of Pohlia from Central and South America and presented the morphological illustrations and photomicrographs of six species with axillary gemmae and one with rhizoidal tubers (Suárez and Schiavone 2011a). Liu et al. (2018) presented the taxonomic study of ten species of Pohlia with axillary and rhizoidal propagules in China, including two new records: P. andalusica (Höhn.) ...

A new propaguliferous moss species, Pohlia tibetana X.R.Wang & X.M.Shao (Mielichhoferiaceae), from Tibet, southwest China, is described. The new species differs most saliently from other species of Pohlia by its combination of slender plants, loosely attached leaves and axillary solitary, and dark red and flower-like gemmae. In this paper, the line drawings, photographs, habit of the new species are provided and a morphological comparison of it with the similar species is made.

Pohlia drummondii currently distributes in Europe, eastern and central Asia, North America and southern South America (Czernyadjeva 1999, Hill et al. 2006, Guerra 2007, Shaw 2009, Akiyama et al. 2009, Suárez & Schiavone 2011b Plants slender, green, glossy when dry, in loose tufts. Stems weakly julaceous by closely arranged leaves, 0.2-1.5 (3.0) cm high. ...

A taxonomic study of the propaguliferous species of the genus Pohlia with axillary and rhizoidal propagules in China is presented. Structure in the variation in size and form of the propagules provides a basis for distinguishing species although developmental variations often exist in the propagules. Ten species are recognized in the study area, including two new records: Pohlia andalusica and P. andrewsii. P. andalusica has obconic propagules with erect-spreading laminate leaf primordia clustered in the leaf axils. The oblong, translucent, reddish-orange, axillary propagule with inconspicuous peg-like protuberances of leaf primordia that are incurved at the apex is a distinctive trait of P. andrewsii. P. hisae is an endemic species to China. The species is distinct because of its axillary propagules, which are obconic to ovate, with long, flexuose peg-like leaf primordia. In addition, the glossy shine of the plants when dry is a good diagnostic feature of Pohlia proligera, P. andrewsii and P. andalusica. Taxonomically important characters of all Chinese propaguliferous Pohlia are provided, as are photomicrographs of propagules and an artificial key to these species. The global distribution and specify provinces in China for each species have been summarized.

Pohlia section Apalodictyon is taxonomically studied for Central and South America. Three species are recognized in the study area (Pohlia lonchochaete, P. magnifica and P. wahlenbergii). Mniobryum bolivianum from Bolivia is proposed as a new synonym of P. wahlenbergii. Three new lectotypes are designated. We provide the first illustrations of P. lonchochaete and P. magnifica, two neglected species from southern South America and describe and illustrate all species observed. Distribution maps of the taxa in Latin America are presented.

Vertebrate faunas of the Mesopotamian region in Argentina provided palaeoclimatic and palaeoenvironmental information from the Pleistocene. Samples collected into a carapace of the turtle Chelonoidis lutzae and associated sediments obtained from the Toropí/Yupoí Formation (Arroyo Toropí, Bella Vista) palynologically studied for the first time. The palynomorph association includes angiosperms (Brassicaceae, Amaranthaceae, Poaceae, Sapotaceae, Fabaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Myrtaceae), Bryophyta, Pteridophyte (Microgramma squamulosa), chlorophytes (Pediastrum tetras, Botryococcus) and fungal spores (Dichomera, Phaeoseptoria sp., Phragmotrichum sp., Agaricus sp.). Palaeoecologic requirements of these botanical groups indicate the predominance of herbaceous palaeocommunities associated with arboreal or shrubby elements and fresh waters bodies. They characterized dynamic scenarios typical of ecotonal zones under arid/semi-arid and humid warm seasonal climates during the Late Pleistocene (Last Maximum Glacial) in the Mesopotamian region.
