This paper puts forward a multiplatform identification method to overcome the limitations of a single platform strategy when mass customization is required. The method is applied to redesign or consolidate an existing product family. The method consists of four steps: (1) the determination of component values, (2) the estimation of component redesi...

Table 2 shows an example of EAs and com- ponents in the water cooler product family. Qualitative values are used to indicate the dependency between EAs and components to show how much the realization of the product's EA depends on the corresponding components. ...

... With this characteristic, Fung, Chong, and Wang (2004) propose an analysis of tangible and intangible needs of customers about the product, directing the formation of the product platform and modules. The proposals by Kong et al. In the Concept Development stage (activities about developing product concepts), the activities that have the greatest support by the tools analyzed are most frequently the sub-activities of functional mapping of the system and managing of the selection process. ...

The incorporation of tools into New Product Development (NPD) process tends to contribute to the implementation of Mass Customization strategy in companies. Different knowledge areas – such as marketing, design and engineering – offer tools for different stages of product development. The specificity of those tools makes their selection and application to NPD process difficult. This paper aims at carrying out a literature review of applicable tools in respect to the NPD aimed at MC promotion. It also aims at identifying, according to its objective, its localization and application to NPD process. By means of a systematic review, 39 tools for NPD were identified. The results present bibliometrics on the tools, identify four tool clusters according to their contributions to product development, and also identify opportunities for research about the theme.

The complexity and non-repeatability of project management and involving a wide range propose special requirements on the project management system. Project programs are time-sensitive and of huge investment risk, compared with the general management information systems, project management system is particularly important to program process control and coordination, so the charge department and other collaboration organizations can be kept informed of the progress of the project and handle problems immediately. Currently there are three kinds of popular project management software on market: P3 (Primavera Project Planner for windows, Primavera company, suitable for large projects), Microsoft Project (Microsoft Corporation, suitable for medium and small projects) and Lotus Notes (IBM Corporation, as a team communication software), They are functionally powerful, but not applied well in actual project management, fundamentally because large volumes of unstructured information in the project management can not be properly processed, resulting in a powerful plan ,but a weak tracking control. It is the major challenge to strengthen the comprehensive management of these projects and improve the quality of project implementation. Some software developers have provided project management (PM) solutions for the domestic enterprises.
