Early childhood dental trauma frequently results in the persistence of immature non-vital teeth accompanied by apical periodontitis and inflammatory external root resorption. Due to the lack of a defined apical stop, such teeth provide various challenges to the clinician. The nonsurgical approach is highlighted in this case report. Endodontic treatment of a comparable patient in a unique approach, with long-term clinically favorable results.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the stress distribution of fiber-reinforced composite provisional fixed partial denture utilizing a finite element analysis model. Material and methods: Three anterior teeth were collected: upper right central, left central, and right lateral incisors. A fiber-reinforced composite strip was applied to the palatal surfaces of the teeth. Micro-computed tomographic scans were acquired of the models in order to generate three-dimensional geometrical replicas. Finite element analysis was used to assess the stress distribution of fiber-reinforced composite provisional fixed partial denture using different pontic types under static applied forces which are (100N, 30N, 0N). Results: The maximum stress values were found on the unprepared natural pontic. Stress values ranged from 92.2 to 909.8 MPa, 116.4 to 646.7 MPa, and 93.8 to 393.5 MPa for composite, natural prepared, and natural unprepared pontic, respectively. Conclusions: Using unprepared natural tooth pontic in anterior provisional fixed partial denture to replace missing central incisors is considered superior to other types in terms of stress distribution. The study on polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-based composites in dental applications have gained much interest in recent years, resulting in many interesting studies worldwide. In those research, various filler types of reinforcing PMMA have been studied extensively. This study combines the microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) particles (0, 1, 2, 3, 5 vol.%) and sisal fiber to strengthen PMMA. We investigate their effects on the flexural, impact, hardness, compressive strength, water absorption, and thermal properties of (MCC)/sisal/PMMA hybrid composites. XRD, SEM, universal testing machine (UTM), hardness Vickers, TGA, and ANSYS Workbench 2022 R1 software are utilized to characterize the properties of the composite. Adding MCC to alkali-treated sisal/PMMA decreases the flexural and impact strengths but increases the hardness. Adding 1 and 2 vol.% MCC produces maximum flexural and impact strength and hardness values. Simulation on a composite added with 1% MCC by applying a full force load of 14.4 N yields compressive strength of 42.56 MPa. Thermal stability of all composites with and without MCC shows similarity until 250°C but gradually degrades at over 250°C, particularly for composites with MCC. Besides, as the addition of MCC increases, the water absorption also increases, with the lowest value of 37.54 µg/mm3 obtained by the composite added with 1 vol.% MCC, which is within the range of the standard dental materials.

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-based composites have been developed in biomedical applications with various reinforcement materials. Kenaf/carbon/PMMA hybrid composites were fabricated by adding chitosan nano and microparticles to characterize their flexural, compression, and water absorption properties affected by chitosan particles. Kenaf/PMMA, carbon/PMMA, and kenaf/carbon/PMMA composites were also studied. Chitosan nanoparticles (∼50 nm) and microparticles in medium molecular weight with concentrations of 1, 3, and 5 vol% were used. Kenaf fiber/carbon fiber ratio of 2:1 and a volume fraction of PMMA matrix of 70% were constant parameters. The flexural properties of the carbon/PMMA composite showed higher values than the others. Adding chitosan particles to kenaf/carbon/PMMA reduced the properties in nano-size or micro-size. However, the properties decrease with chitosan nanoparticle concentration, but not by microparticles. A maximum flexural strength showed a value of 133.57 MPa by adding 5 vol% microparticles. The chitosan nanoparticles tended to aggregate, leading to uneven dispersion within the matrix and decreasing mechanical properties. The compressive strength (126.66 MPa) of kenaf/carbon/PMMA with 5 vol% microparticles was obtained by a simulation applying the maximum force load of 94.5 N. Inversely, adding 5 vol% of chitosan particles showed the highest water uptake of less than 6%. These results would be valuable information in developing dental materials.

Dental trauma of permanent teeth is often the subject of emergency consultations, especially when they are the cause of spectacular lesions such as dental expulsion, lateral luxation, and pulp exposure. Therefore, the purpose of the immediate treatment is to maintain pulp vitality and peri-odontal health of the tooth. The prognosis of these trau-matized teeth depends on the type of dental trauma, the emergency treatment and the time elapsed between the trauma and the treatment. The present report aimed to describes a clinical case of a lateral luxation of the left central maxillary incisor (#21) and uncomplicated crown fracture of the upper right incisor (#11) in a 13-year-old boy. The management of the trauma consisted of reduction and splinting of the tooth 21, and indirect pulp capping of the tooth 11. No signs of complications were reported after 12-months follow-up period.

Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is a dental material used extensively for vital pulp therapy (VPT), scaffold cover during regenerative endodontic procedures, apical barrier in teeth with necrotic pulps and open apices, perforation repair, and root canal filling and root-end filling during surgical endodontics. A number of bioactive endodontic cements (BECs) have recently been introduced to the market. Most of these materials had calcium and silicate in their compositions; however, the bioactivity is the common property of these cements. These materials include: BioAggregate, Biodentine, BioRoot RCS, calcium enriched mixture (CEM) cement, Endo-CPM, Endocem, EndoSequence, EndoBinder, EndoSeal MTA, iRoot, MicroMega MTA,, MTA Bio, MTA Fillapex, MTA Plus, Neo MTA Plus, Ortho MTA, Quick-Set, Retro MTA, Tech Biosealer, and TheraCal. It has been claimed that these materials have properties similar to those of MTA but without the drawbacks. In Part I of this discussion we extensively reviewed available information on the chemical composition of the materials listed above and reported their applications for VPT.

Frequent occurrence of dental trauma in the early childhood often leads to persistence of immature nonvital tooth supplemented by periapical periodontitis as well as inflammatory external root resorption. Such teeth pose several difficulties in front of the clinician primarily due to absence of definite apical stop. The present case report highlights the nonsurgical endodontic management of a similar case in a novel way with long term clinically favourable outcome.
