The paper describes the development of a comprehensive decision logic for selection and use of biological and chemical protective clothing (BCPC). The decision logic recognizes the separate areas of BCPC use among emergency, biological, and chemical hazards. The proposed decision logic provides a system for type classifying BCPC in terms of its com...

Emergency response is an important phase in emergency management when natural or human-made disasters occur and Incident Action Plan (IAP) is a very important component in the response phase of emergency management. Traditionally, IAP is created manually and presented as an oral or written plan. With advances in computers and information technology...

... Therefore, safety gloves and ballistic eyewear are the most important personal protective equipment (PPE). In the case of chemical and biological hazards, comprehensive decision logic for selection of protective clothing was developed earlier [11]. Conversely, the choice of PPE for explosive applications still remains to be a serious challenge for scientists. ...

In the present paper we report recommendations for safe handling with unknown explosive materials and compositions. These are based on quantum‐chemical evaluations of the detonation and ballistic profiles of newly synthesized explosives and their comparison with the known reference compounds. The proposed methodology is rather simple, fast and does not require special skills. Meanwhile, it allows an effective quenching of the potential risk associated with injuries caused by accidental explosions. Additionally, we have developed two utilities, which significantly simplify the calculation process. The proposed algorithm was found to be more successful in estimation of detonation velocity of several common explosives in comparison with commercially available software EMDB, EXPLO5 and Cheetah 8.0. The reported results will be useful for scientific personnel working in the field of development and testing of explosives. Computer simulation is the best way to obtain preliminary information about the detonation properties and sensitivity of a novel energetic material. This can make your research safer. In the present paper a methodology for evaluation of detonation and ballistic properties of explosives is described from scratch.
... In response to the great global needs for multipurpose protective clothing, considerable efforts have been devoted to the development new fabric materials and garment technologies, and many of these studies have achieved encouraging results. 2,3 However, to date, successful examples of protective clothing that can simultaneously provide multiple protections (e.g., thermal protection, biological protection, chemical protection, etc.) are still lacking. ...

Polymethacrylamide (PMAA) was coated onto the surfaces of Kevlar fabrics through the in situ polymerization of methacrylamide (MAA) within coating polymer binders. Upon chlorine bleach treatment, the amide groups of the coated PMAA side chains were transformed into stable acyclic N-halamines. The resultant fabric materials provided potent, durable, and rechargeable biocidal activities against E. coli (gram-negative bacteria), S. aureus (gram-positive bacteria), C. tropicalis (fungi), MS2 virus, and Bacillus subtilis spores. The excellent thermal and mechanical properties of the original Kevlar fabrics were successfully retained after the coating treatment.
