The intention of this paper is to justify the need to study the alignment of the Business and Integrated Management System (IMS) within the organisation in the Singapore context. The potential for such a study will enable the derivation of guidelines for practitioners in the implementation of successful IMS in their organisations. This paper reviews the extant literature on dimensions of the alignment between the Business and the IMS and the limitations of existing models in practice. The main contribution of this paper is the identification of the gap that exists in the (mis)alignment between Business and the IMS. This study adopts a desk research approach in conceptualizing the study and is used as a stepping stone for further research. Originality/value-This is the first study conducted in Singapore to understand the alignment of Business and the IMS in the context of SMEs.

The concept of integrated management system in higher education is a new approach to organizing, and it has an aim to increase efficiency and coordinate all levels of management, decision making, and implementation of the teaching-learning process. Each level of management and decision-making is correlated with factors of internal and external environment. Integrated management system does not introduce new elements, but rationalize the use of the common elements, and thus provides a common synergy effect elements such as policy, planning, continuous improvement, teamwork and process approach. The possibility of applying the concept of integrated management system indicates that raising the quality of teaching-learning process, as well as recognition of liabilities to customers and stakeholders, is the basis for the development of the institution and achieving success. The use of this model is significant in terms of effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability of the business, and the education system. Implementation of integrated management system in the higher education sector represents a new paradigm and the mode of operation.

The quality and standard of financial reporting among Burundian commercial banks do not match the international standard of reporting in the banking sector of more developed countries. lack of clarity on the extent to which integrated financial management system influences financial reporting will therefore continue to inhibit common understanding and explanation which might deter financial reporting improvement in selected commercial banks in Bujumbura, Burundi.
