An online service is proposed for recognition of the genera of a Cambrian fossil group, the Archaeocyatha, using Xper 2. It stores, edits and publishes the descriptive data compiled in the available documentation and provides a free access key. Why Archaeocyatha? They are well studied by an international cooperation, so avoiding most of the problem...

Spatial and spectral features are two important attributes that form the knowledge based database, useful in classification of engineered objects, using remote sensing data. Spectral features alone may be insufficient to identify buildings and roads in urban areas due to spectral homogeneity and similarity exhibited by them. This has led researcher...

Vietnam is known as a country with an agricultural culture which is a complex product of cultural, natural and human factors. Wide a wide variety of ethnic groups, geography and climate, the culture of Vietnam is extremely diverse and highly differentiated between each ethnic group or specific region. Moreover, Vietnam is l one of the mega-biodiverse regions of the world which has a significant impact on human culture. Biodiversity is always based upon the diversity of the plant kingdom. And, plants are recognized as a moment of the process. In fact, Vietnam was seen as a culture of horticulture and tilling. For example, the terraced fields in the mountainous regions of northern Vietnam like Hoang Su Phi, Sapa ones were recognized as nature heritage at national level of Vietnam. That is a symbol of agriculture culture. All the cultural and social activities of each community are closely linked to the scheme of the cropping season. This means that the evolution and development of humans and their culture is also in line with the evolution of plants and nature. For this reason, plant genebanks are considered to represent an overview of the diversity of culture, ethnicitiy/humanity and nature of Vietnam. The Plant Resources Center (PRC) is the national coordinator of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture in Vietnam. PRC is currently conserving 450,000 accessions of 400 crop species and wild species relatives at 35 centers/institutes in the agricultural and rural sector across Vietnam. Our records of the plant resources in these genebanks prove that plant diversity is a factor expressed and reflected in the diversity of languages, knowledge, experience and culture where they developed. They also reflect the conditions of nature and the environment where they are distributed. Finally, plants area separate and distinct part of culture, nature and people of Vietnam. They are integrated into every area of Vietnamese life and spirit. Keywords: Plant, Culture, Human, Nature
... The numerous knowledge bases (over one thousand active KB) already created and published with the two platforms prove their relevance and efficiency (See for example Mathieu et al. 2012, Kerner 2012, Corvez and Grand 2014, Martin et al. 2015, Engel et al. 2016, Saïd et al. 2017. Scientists can share their data on phenotypes (structured descriptions, documented with images, videos, and text including bibliography and external links), compare phenotypes, and import or export partial or total content in various standard formats such as SDD (Structured Descriptive Data, a TDWG data standard), CSV (Comma Separated Values, used in Spreadsheet), and NEXUS (used in ...

Lower Cambrian strata (Weisner-Shady Formations) of the Sleeping Giants Ridge Complex in eastern Alabama have produced archaeocyaths not previously reported from the southern Appalachians. The unusual, thorny-archaeocyath Yukonensis sp. is reported here and represents the first find of the genus outside of Yukon Territory and Alaska. An Early Cambrian archaeocyath with taeniae belonging to Suborder Archaeo-cyathina also occurs at Sleeping Giants. The occurrence of Yukonensis sp. in Alabama is in accord with the concept of faunal interchange between the archaeocyath faunas of (present day coordinates) eastern and western North America.
Chapter
Observation and description are the basis for studies on living organisms. The computerization of descriptive knowledge on living organisms thus leads from a natural and illustrated language to a formal language, transferable to computers on which programs can apply algorithms. Non‐explicit data, terminology that is not always standardized, and the heterogeneity of descriptions constitute the millions of published taxonomic descriptions, texts that are difficult to analyze using automatic procedures without formalizing them. The creation of knowledge bases is time consuming and difficult, explaining why these resources are currently far from covering the entirety of known taxa. However, it is clear that the imposed standardization and formalization efforts are today beneficial to research, diffusion of knowledge or applications dedicated to identification. Structured and non‐ or semistructured resources will therefore continue their separate evolution but with some interactions, nonetheless, because they are complementary to each other.
