Specifically, in Indochina, Namtokocoris can be found completely immersed beneath sheeting water of waterfalls but also on wet rock surfaces that only are sprayed with mist from the waterfall (Sites & Vitheepradit 2007). In India, Diaphorocoris and Pogonocaudina were collected out of water on wet rock surfaces during the dry season (Sites et al. 2011), although they might also occur in the film of water of waterfalls at times of the year when more water is available. All of the known Old World genera that have adapted to waterfall or hygropetric habitats are in the subfamily Laccocorinae. ...

A new genus and species of Naucoridae are described from two male specimens that inhabited an algae-covered granite rock seep in Guyana. Hygropetrocoris Sites NEW GENUS is diagnosed by a nearly vertical and apparently freely movable head, bulbous eyes, hair lines and hair patches on the hemelytra, profemur with anterior excavation that can receive a prominent tooth on the opposable protibia, and stout marginal tufts of setae on the pronotum, embolium, and connexiva. H. guyana Sites NEW SPECIES is further diagnosed by pseudoparameres that are wide, black, directed posterolaterally, and bluntly produced laterally. Character states of this genus are compared with those of the other genera of Cryphocric- inae. Two new species of Ambrysus Stål from the region also are described. Ambrysus brunneus Sites NEW SPECIES is described from a single female specimen and diagnosed by a digitate lobe on laterosternite VI, shape of the subgenital plate, and concolorous dark brown dorsal coloration; Ambrysus shorti Sites NEW SPECIES is described from a single male specimen and diagnosed by its small size, narrow body form, and tentacular setae of the parameres.

Adults and first through fifth instars of three species of Naucoridae in the subfamily Laccocorinae were collected from localities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka states in southern India. Specifically, Heleocoris indicus (Montandon) and Heleocoris vicinus (Montandon) were collected from the vegetated margins of streams that contained no congeners. Pogonocaudina indica Sites & Zettel was collected from vertical rock surfaces at the type locality. All instars of these three species are described here. First instars of both species of Heleocoris are immaculate, whereas subsequent instars are densely punctate. The first instar of P. indica has pronounced dorsal tubercles with stout spines, whereas subsequent instars lack these structures. All instars of P. indica have a deep terminal cleft and dense fringe of hairs on the perimeter of the posterior abdominal segments. Second through fifth instars of these three species can be distinguished based on relative length of the mesonotal wing pad compared with the exposed part of the metanotal lateral margin.

Objectives : A study conducted at the Laboratory of Zoology and General Biology, University of Yaoundé I focused on the ecology of aquatic bug Ilyocoris cimicoides Linnaeus 1758 (Heteroptera : Naucoridae) taken from Lake Obili (Yaoundé, Cameroon). Methodology and Results: The physico-chemical analysis showed that this lake is in a eutrophic state and its waters are heavily loaded with organic matter. Morphological observations and illustration stages of development and the study of their digital fluctuations show that I. cimicoides, has six post-embryonic stages of which five are breeding. The sizes of individuals increase the first stage larva to adult. Larval stages of I.cimicoides are distinguished from each other by the presence or absence of pterotheque, the shape of the posterior margin and mesotergum pterotheque relative size with respect to the base of mesotergum. Conclusions : Abundance stages of development I. cimicoides is influenced by seasonality and the evolution of certain physico-chemical variables. Larvae swim in the dry season and eggs and adults during the rainy season.
... Although currently unknown south of the Isthmus of Kra, Namtokocoris does occur in the southern peninsula of Thailand, therefore one or more species of could conceivably occur in the mountains of the northern Peninsular Malaysia, where they should be searched for on vertical or sloping wet bedrock faces. Previous records of the Indian and Ceylonese genus Diaphorocoris from Indochina, based on a single female unidentifi ed as to species (Chen et al., 2005), are in fact referable to Namtokocoris (Sites & Zettel, 2011 Polhemus, 2008b). Of the 14 Southeast Asian taxa, four are known from continental Southeast Asia, nine from the Sunda Islands, and one from the Philippines. ...

This is the eleventh part in a series of papers constituting a Guide to the Aquatic Heteroptera of Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia, and treats the families Naucoridae and Aphelocheirdae in the infraorder Nepomorpha. Keys are provided to the subfamilies and genera of Naucoridae occurring in the region, and to the regional species in the genera Naucoris, Ctenipocoris, Heleocoris, and Aphelocheirus; new distributional records are also provided for many of these species. In the naucorid subfamily Naucorinae, the new species Naucoris minutus is described from Singapore, and Naucoris rhizomatus J. Polhemus is placed in synonymy under Naucoris scutellaris Stål. In the naucorid subfamily Laccocorinae, new distributional records are provided for Ctenipocoris asiaticus; the new species Heleocoris malayensis is described from Peninsular Malaysia; and Laccocoris nervicus and Heleocoris ovatus are found to have been incorrectly recorded from Peninsular Malaysia in previous publications. Colour habitus photos are provided for the two new species described, and line drawings of male and female genitalic structures are provided for all species in these two families known to occur in Singapore and Peninsular Malaysia.

The true bug infraorder Nepomorpha contains 11 families with classifications mostly using morphological features and not based on phylogenetic analyses. Presented here is the first molecular-based phylogeny for a family of Nepomorpha including more than half of the constituent taxa. Two nuclear (18S rRNA and 28S rRNA) and two mitochondrial (COI and COII) genes were used to reconstruct phylogenetic relationships with both Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood analyses. Ingroup taxa included all six subfamilies, 41 of the 43 genera, and 221 species and subspecies. Results of the analyses were mostly congruent and revealed Naucoridae to be monophyletic, but two of the subfamilies (Cheirochelinae and Naucorinae) and three genera (Heleocoris, Laccocoris and Naucoris) as polyphyletic. Two clades formerly in Naucorinae were recovered as distinct subfamily-level clades: Macrocorinae subfam. nov. contains the African Macrocoris and Neomacrocoris, and Ilyocorinae stat. nov. contains the Palaearctic Ilyocoris and Neotropical Placomerus. Laccocorinae is unchanged in its constituent membership, but its organization now includes four tribe-level groups. Limnocorinae and the recently revised Cryphocricinae and Ambrysinae are unchanged. An annotated list of all subfamily-, tribe- and genus-group taxa is presented, including new taxa descriptions, synonymies and new combinations.

The genus Heleocoris in Indochina has languished for more than a century with no substantial history of taxonomic, bio- logical, or ecological research since the original descriptions of the species, despite its abundance and ubiquity in streams throughout the region. This is largely because of the inability to assign specific identities to these insects and the need for taxonomic revision. Presented here is a comprehensive treatment on the taxonomy and faunistics of the four species now known to occur in Thailand, including the description of Heleocoris mcphersoni, n. sp. Diagnostic information, records from Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, ecological notes, habitus photographs, and a taxonomic key to identify the four species are presented.
