The study is devoted to the analysis of the current level of use of neural network tools to create conditions for individualization of student learning. The author presents the results of the analysis of scientific developments of scientists in the questions of the use of neural network approaches in the educational process, presents a range of basic modern directions of research and development, in particular: adaptive tests, individualization of learning, improvement of the level of distance education and others. The author emphasizes that modernity is characterized by an active increase in the number of students who choose for themselves individual and distance forms of education, which leads to the need for the development of modern technological systems of distance learning. For this purpose, the scientist conducts a comparative analysis of distance learning tools, their features and capabilities in terms of implementation of an automated intellectual system of individualization of the educational process.

As we enter the age of information society, information retrieval over the Internet will be indispensable for everyday life, and spoken language will be an essential medium for human-machine dialogue. This paper presents a part of the outcome of a five-year project led by the first author on Human-Machine Spoken Dialogue Systems, conducted under the ‘Research for the Future’ program by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. In the first place, three novel principles are presented: 1) user and system modeling for efficient dialogue management, 2) use of key concepts in information retrieval, and 3) optimization of information retrieval through relevance estimation. Methods for their realization are then described in detail especially for academic information retrieval. Finally, an experimental system is shown that has been designed and constructed to demonstrate the validity of the proposed principles.

The focus of this research was on how human users can connect to, participate in, and control agent-based systems. One of the primary accomplishments was the development of a collaborative, dialogue-based problem solving model. The approach incorporates mixed-initiative, dialogue and agent-based technologies. The model was built in a fashion where the human works with an automated intelligent assistant agent that coordinates the interaction with other agents. The model provides a framework for interpreting the user's intentions in the interaction. A dialogue-based system approach proved to be an effective way to support humans when managing agents. Such an approach facilitates intuitive and natural human-computer interaction. The underlying problem solving model supports domain-independent collaboration with a human user. The system was built off of a previously successful dialogue-based mixed-initiative planning system called TRIPS (The Rochester Interactive Planning System). This report discusses the architecture and infrastructure for the system developed. Detail is provided on the model of collaborative problem solving. A number of experiments involving integrated, end-to-end human in the loop agent-based systems are also discussed.
