Karyotypes were studied from the family Tragulidae of Thailand, representing a single genus with two species namely; lesser Malay mouse-deer (Tragulus javanicus) and larger Malay mouse-deer (Tragulus napu). Blood samples were taken from the two species kept in Khoa Kheow Open Zoo, Chonburi province and Songkhla Zoo, Songkhla province,Thailand. Afte...

Context 1
... cells were cultured at 37 o C for 72 hours and conventionally stainined, we found that lesser Malay mouse- deer has 2n=32 and fundamental number (NF) were 64 in both of male and female ( Figures 1, 2 and 3). This result is in agreement with Yong (1973), Shi and Chen (1989) and Gallagher et al. (1996). ...
Context 2
... Malay mouse-deer has 6 large metacentric, 6 large submetacentric, 14 medium metacentric, 2 submeta- centric and 2 small metacentric autosomes (Figures 1, 2 and 3). This is similar to Yong (1973), Shi and Chen (1989) and Gallagher et al. (1996), were reported the autosomes of lesser Malay mouse-deer as metacentric and submetacentric chro- mosomes. ...
Context 3
... character of the autosomes was complete Robertsonian fusion (centric fusion). For larger Malay mouse-deer, the autosomes were 6 large metacentric, 6 large The X chromosome of lesser Malay mouse deer was a large submetacentric chromosome and the Y chromosome was a small metacentric chromosome (Figures 1, 2 and 3) confirming the reports of Yong (1973), Shi and Chen (1989) and Gallagher et al. (1996). For larger Malay mouse-deer, the X chromosome was a large submetacentric chromosome and the Y chromosome was the smallest metacentric chro- mosome (Figures 4, 5 and 6). ...
Context 4
... results revealed that both of Malay mouse-deer have the same size and type of X chromosome while the size of their Y chromosome is quite difference. Lesser Malay mouse-deer has a small Y chromo- (Figures 1 and 4). The 20 metaphase cells of males and females lesser and larger Malay mouse-deer were used the chromosome measuring at 3,800 fold size. ...

... relative length (RL), centromeric index (CI) and SD of RL and CI were calculated. The size and type of each chromosome were determined (Tables 1 and 2). ...

... There are cytogenetic reports of deer in family Cervidae and Tagulidae in Thailand, including Tragulusnapu (2n = 32), T. javanicus (2n = 32), M.muntjak (2n = 6, 7, 9), M. feae (2n = 12, 13, 14), C. unicolor (2n = 56), C. eldi (2n = 58), A. axis (2n = 66), H. porcinus (2n = 68) and hybrid deer (H. porcinus × A. axis, 2n = 67) [3,19,20]. The chromosome evolution in these groups is related to Robertsonian translocation, chromosome fission, centric fusion and tandem fusion. ...

The chromosome analyses of F1 hybrid male deer from the cross of Hyelaphus porcinus male and Axis axis female have been presented. Chromosomes were prepared from T-lymphocyte by conventional staining and GTC-banding techniques. The results showed that the diploid chromosome number of F1 hybrid male deer was 2n = 67, fundamental number was 70. The special karyotype consisted of 2 large metacentric, 1 large submetacentric, 13 large telocentric, 18 medium telocentric and 31 small telocentric chromosomes. The X-chromosome was large telocentric chromosome and Y-chromosome was small acrocentric chromosome. The amount of GTG-banding pattern on a set of haploid number (n) in the hybrid were 261 bands. The GTG-banding comparison of hybrid deer and the parents has been shown with the deduced karyotype formula as: 2n (67) = Lm2 + Lsm1 + Lt13 + Mt18 + St31 + sex chromosomes
