Inefficient marketing and low production are the main obstacles in the selling of pepper and they also cause a low bargaining position for farmers in the market. Therefore, this study aims to determine the market behavior activities carried out to determine prices, as well as analyze marketing channels, profits received by participants and efficiency. Samples used in this study were 27 farmers, 4 trading districts, and 3 respondent retailers. The qualitative analysis was used to analyze the pattern of channels, the functions performed by associated agencies and the market behavior of the pepper commodity. Quantitative analysis was also carried out to evaluate the marketing margins, costs incurred by traders, profits received and efficiency. The results show that the selling price of pepper was determined by the merchant, with different payment systems including cash, initial deposit, and balance through oral cooperation in the form of an agreement on a place of sales, followed by the provision of capital to farmers. In the marketing process, 4 patterns of channels were formed, which include local markets and others outside the regency, and their efficiencies were above 50%. These results show that government need to provide pepper markets outside the province to improve the welfare of farmers and ensure they don't depend only on the local marketplace during harvest.

The world abalone market demand is increasing in line with the increasing need for various protein sources, and therefore the abalone (Haliotis squamata) is enlarged using the floating net cage method. The activity of this study was held at the Center for Mariculture of Lombok Sea located in Village Sekotong Barat, Subdistrict of Sekotong, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province on January 18 until February 18, 2016. The enlargement of abalone using the floating net cages method needs a series of enlargement activities starting from the selection of location, preparation for nets, spreading seeds, cultivation of seeds, sampling for growth, sorting out, and grading and harvesting abalone in the size of consumption. Seeds that are spread for the enlargement are healthy seeds and responsive with the size of a seed of 2-3 cm. Foods used in the enlargement of abalone (Haliotis squamata) are Gracillaria sp. by means of giving the foods in ad libitum once a day. The parameter of water quality includes temperature around 28.7 oC, pH 7.5, the salinity of 29 ppt, and DO 4,8 mg/l. Factors influencing the growth of abalone are foods, water quality, and pests and diseases. As for the obstacles encountered in the process of abalone, enlargement is dirt and pests, and large current surge resulted in low abalone life-span.

Abalone is one type of shellfish that has high economic value. This study aimed to assess market structure of abalone. The study was carried out in Bajo Bahari Village in Buton District, and Bau-Bau Municipality. Respondents consisted of 30 abalone catchers in the village, and three village abalone collectors (VACs) and two inter-island abalone traders (IATs) selected using snowball sampling method. Data were collected first in February 2015 and in May 2020 during Covid-19 pandemic. Data were analyzed qualitatively. Market structure was identified through assessment of the nature of competition based on the number of buyers and sellers, product differentiation, and entry and exit barriers. Study results showed that market structure exhibits oligopsony, in which the number of producers are more than that of village collectors, product differentiation is absent, and there exist some barriers to entry for village collectors. During Covid-19 pandemic, fishermen stop catching wild abalone, so there are still no more products to be marketed.
