... The apparent gaps in the empirical research from various Nigerian authors on the post-COVID-19 adoption of technology necessitated the addition of a mediating variable and an increase in the number of independent variables, because many studies in Nigeria lack a mediating variable. Also, inadequacies found in previous research conducted during and after post COVID-19 era, which did not assess the impact of innovation adoption (Bai, Quayson & Sarkis, 2021) motivated this study (Maikomo, Targema & Obun-Andy, 2021). Sustained Manipulation, Adaptation, and Review Technology usability in the Nigerian economy were conceptualised in the study and the following hypotheses were formulated. ...

By investigating the complex effects of technology adoption in Nigeria and offering insight into the dynamic interactions between societal, economic, and technological factors as the global community navigates the post-pandemic era, this study seeks to address significant effects regarding Nigeria's post-COVID-19 technology landscape. The study employed the comprehensive framework, which merged the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Innovation Diffusion Theory, and Structuration Theory as a result of the coherence technology adoption model. The cross-sectional survey design gathered primary data through a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire. A simple random sampling technique was adopted to select and analyse 1040 respondents from nine different sectors of the Nigerian economy. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) v25 was utilised for data screening and descriptive statistics, while, SmartPLS v4.0.9.5 was employed to calculate the inferential statistics. Based on the findings from different sectors within the population under investigation, it is clear that all exogenous variables affect the adoption of the technology. The study recommended that local community involvement in technology adoption, legalisation of cutting-edge sectorial compliance, and the use of computer-based evaluation systems for assessment and instructions across educational sectors should be prioritised by the public and corporate bodies.
... Although the concomitant tension that accompanied COVID pandemic has doused globally, the ripple effects of the deadly virus are still manifest in the society with systemic and intellectual loopholes for researchers to probe further to avoid future recurrence of the same tragedy. During the pandemic, Nigerians were forced to embrace the "new normal" as a way of living to contain the further spread of the virus (Maikomo, Targema & Obun-Andy, 2021). This new normal emphasised consciousness of the safety measures put forward by WHO to help individuals carry out their day-today activities in the face of the pandemic. ...

COVID-19 infodemic took centre-stage in global efforts towards containing the pandemic. Due to novelty of the virus, it became obligatory for experts and relevant agencies to enlighten the public on the nature of the virus as well as the safety protocols that must be adopted to contend its spread and enhance positive behavioural traits. It is against this backdrop, that this study examines the knowledge, attitude, and practices of COVID-19 safety protocol among residents of Taraba State, Nigeria. Data were generated using a cross-sectional survey where 332 respondents were administered questionnaire via cluster sampling technique across the three senatorial districts of the state. Findings reveal high level of knowledge and awareness of COVID-19 safety protocols courtesy of sustained sensitization from conventional and informal channels of communication. However, attitudes of the people towards the safety protocols were not commensurate to the level of awareness, a factor that is attributable to the predominance of fake news and conspiracy theories about the pandemic that were popularized mostly through informal sources which consequently undermined government's efforts in fighting the virus. The study concludes that although COVID-19 awareness was widespread, most people got their information from informal channels that contained a high dose of fake news and misinformation. To this end, the study recommends that government and its agents should diversify communication channels and evolve a people-oriented strategy that will recognise the popular channels of information among the people, and not just rely on conventional media channels.

Objective: In the era of global society 5.0, people worldwide are faced with demands to keep pace with the development of technology and knowledge by developing their "hard skills" and "soft skills." Ever-evolving technologies are utilized to achieve this goal. One example of its implementation in education is the use of websites in science learning. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of learning websites in improving student achievement. Method: Using the systematic literature review method, the research collects and analyzes twenty articles related to learning websites. Result: The results of the twenty journals showed that the use of website media has a positive impact on improving student achievement in the context of science learning. This reflects the critical role of technology in education in the era of global society 5.0. There has been a significant increase in minimum score achievement and student satisfaction with learning. Using the website allows students to learn efficiently and flexibly anywhere. This indicates that learning websites effectively aid students' comprehension of the material, motivate them to learn, and foster interest in learning. Novelty: The website learning media must continue to be developed. In the era of a global society, 5.0 technology in education is essential. This is based on an analysis of the data obtained regarding the use of website media for science learning.
... 9), for instance, observed that: "the lower-income class living in rural and peri-urban areas are most at risk of fake news, and where myths are involved, they spread quickly amongst these populations." COVID-19 particularly presents a good case study for this post-mortem assessment for a couple of reasons: apart from being the most devastating scourge in the recent health history of humanity, the pandemic had neither cure nor vaccine for the most part of its initial outbreak (Lucas et al, 2020;Maikomo, Targema & Obun-Andy, 2021), prompting the need to promote precautionary measures-or safety protocols/guidelines-as the most effective way of containing its spread (Reuben, Danladi, Saleh & Ejembi, 2020). ...
... The major objective of this study is to underscore the communication strategies adopted for promoting positive attitudinal traits towards COVID-19 among residents of The imperative of a strategic communication approach towards enhancing positive health behaviour has been advanced in academic literature on health communication (Aswani, 2021;Anorue et al 2021). Nearly a year into its outbreak, COVID-19 had neither cure no vaccine (Lucas et al, 2020;Maikomo, Targema & Obun-Andy, 2021), making the need to persuade the masses to adopt laidedown guidelines-or safety protocols towards containing its spread one of the major preoccupations of health experts and authorities (Ibiang, 2020). When the vaccine was eventually developed, this effort expanded to include convincing the masses to take the vaccine jabs to provide them with needed immunity towards the virus (Sadiq, Croucher, & Dutta, 2023). ...
... The Nigerian situation-and indeed most of sub-Saharan Africa-is particularly unique given the gross information disadvantage of people at the grassroots occasioned by several factors such as the digital divide question, endemic poverty, gender factor and gross infrastructural deficit that affect effective information access of people at the grassroots (Maikomo, Targema & Obun-Andy, 2021). This informs the need for a communication approach that does not only incorporates international conventions, but also takes cognizance of local peculiarities to carry everyone along. ...

This study examined the communication strategies that were employed to combat COVID-19 fake news and promote positive behavioural traits towards COVID-19 in rural and suburban settlements of Taraba State, Nigeria. This examination was done against the backdrop of the media-disadvantaged status of rural communities in Nigeria where access to modern channels of communication is extremely difficult owing to a multiplicity of factors such as lack of steady power supply, socioeconomic status, and literacy levels among other factors. Using in-depth interview as the research method, the study engaged agents of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)-an agency that was saddled with the responsibility of tackling the pandemic in Nigeria, and primary healthcare workers in the state for data on the communication approaches they utilised to sensitize the masses on the pandemic, the effectiveness of the channels used, and the limitations that inhibited the process. Findings revealed that while a combination of modern and traditional communication channels was deployed, the traditional channels proved more effective in engaging with the masses at the grassroots due to their popular appeal at that level, although with serious limitations bothering on reach and logistics. The study recommended a synergy between modern and traditional communication channels to checkmate the limitations of individual channels and properly mainstream them into the process of sensitizing people at the grassroots towards adopting appropriate health behaviours necessary for combating COVID-19 and indeed, other health emergencies.

After the Covid-19 pandemic, the worship activities of Muslims have given rise to various controversies in the context of their principles, attitudes, and worship relations. In addition to explaining the controversies of Muslim worship after the Covid-19 pandemic, this study also analyzes the factors and implications of this phenomenon. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data was collected through direct observation and interviews with Muslims who carried out the five-time obligatory worship activities in the congregation at the mosque after the Covid-19 pandemic. The analysis in this study was carried out by reducing, describing, and inductively interpreting the data. The findings in this study show that post-Covid-19 pandemic worship controversies have not only appeared in the form of regulations, fqih, and worship norms. This context is influenced by the experience, knowledge, and meaning of Muslims, which has implications for the principles, attitudes, and patterns of worship in a more personal and subjective direction after the Covid-19 pandemic.
... Technological determinism theory presents a framework for understanding the relationship between information and communication technology and the key features of society at any given period (Burnett & Marshall, as cited in Paragas & Lin, 2014). The theory explains the linkage between breakthroughs in communication technology and the factors that propel them to effectively drive social change in society (Maikomo et al., 2021). Sharma (2018) states that "at the heart of the discussion on the theory of technological determinism lies the premise that technology is the basis for shaping society and any important event in society is based on the result of some innovation" (p. ...
... A worthy point that must be emphasized to round up the discussion in this section is that social media serve primarily to reinforce citizens' disenchantment with state forces (Chon & Park, 2020;Wolfsfeld et al., 2013). Maikomo and Targema (2021) noted that beyond police brutality which served as the trigger of the protest, "citizens' frustration and disapproval of status quo, endemic corruption that bread untold hardships on citizens, endemic poverty rates and widening inequality gaps, and gross unemployment of the youth were also critical factors that motivated and sustained the protest" (p. 12). ...

Keywords: This study explored the potential of social media for effective mass mobilization and community engagement to attain national development in Nigeria. Premised on the fact that social media have become popular platforms attracting millions of subscribers, the study examined how the opportunities they offer could be harnessed and purposefully deployed to galvanize the citizens to pursue national development causes. This was done against the backdrop of the technological determinism theory that provides the framework for investigating the indispensable role which technology plays in the advancement of a nation's socioeconomic development. The secondary research approach was adopted to carry out the study and studied the 2020 #EndSARS protest (SARS refers to Special Anti-Robbery Squad), a youth uprising that aimed to put an end to all forms of police brutality and systemic injustices in the country. This study examined the nature of digital activism that social media facilitated during the protest and how that translated into real-life activism, thereby galvanizing the youth to actively execute the protest. By considering the challenges of the platforms in this regard such as the possibility of being hijacked and negatively deployed in a counterproductive manner, the study concludes that proper mainstreaming of social media into the community engagement and national development struggle would help engage meaningfully with the citizens and mobilize them to attain socioeconomic development in the country. Conclusively, the #EndSARS experience demonstrates that social media portends considerable opportunities to engage citizens positively for national development in Nigeria.

In the course of the outbreak of COVID-19, the Nigerian society adopted digital life as an alternative to physical interaction so as to keep afloat in the period of the lockdown. This option brought about a lot of changes especially in the usage of communication facilities. Many Nigerians that are not willing to have Internet connectivity had no option than to accept the reality on ground. This work examines the related literatures within and outside Nigeria. Thereafter , it examined the usage level and satisfaction of the users through questionnaires administering to the subscribers of different cellular networks available. The questionnaires were administered in Akure to the cellular subscribers of MTN, GLO, Airtel and 9mobile randomly. Afterwards, the data were analyzed and discussion of the results of each component of the questionnaires was done. The study revealed that MTN subscribers are more and most respondents are just using 4G services within 1-6 months durations. Also, the studies established that those respondents always on 4G Services are more than any other class in a day. Thus, this work established that COVID-19 pandemic brought changes to the daily activities, thus, a shift to digital life among the subscribers.
