Wastewater recycling and reuse represent common practices in several parts of the world, particularly in those with an existing water deficit. Since conventional wastewater treatment plants are not able to efficiently remove priority micropollutants and pathogens, there is a need of more adequate treatment technologies. Advanced processes, like mem...

Context 1
... the last years, România has suffered from the effects of global climate change, increased periods of drought, desertification, as well as declining of water resource availability. According to the National Management Plan for the period 2016-2021, the hydrographic basin of Prut River, from which Iași is part of (Figure 1), was identified to have a potential water resource deficit and a risk to drought, having, as major challenge, the need to find alternative water sources, to help mitigate the deficit water problem. In this context, the research project WATUSER: "Integrated system for reducing environmental and human -related impacts and risks in the water use cycle" financed by the National Research &Innovation Programme PNCDI II, was implemented between 2012 and 2016 by two Romanian universities: "Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University of Iași, which acted as coordinator and Politehnica University of Timișoara, together with 2 important partners from the regional water operators network: SC APAVITAL SA from Iași and SC AQUATIM SA from Timișoara. ...

... research study has evaluated the long term effect of treated wastewater reuse on vegetable crops irrigation intended for human consumption (Cirelli et al, 2012). The authors concluded that low-quality treated wastewater can be used, as an additional water resource to increase vegetable production in water-scarce Mediterranean environments. ...
