A new Macrolepiota taxon from Italy, M. rhodosperma var. velicopia, is described and illustrated based on morphological and ITS rDNA data. It is characterized by a well-developed volva and abundant, evident velar remnants on the pileus, a stipe with a minutely squamulose covering, and very thick-walled elements in the pileipellis. A discussion on i...

... M. fuliginosa sensu Vellinga differs from M. fuliginosa sensu auct. pl. (Fig. 3). We regard Lepiota procera var. fuliginosa as a predominantly Mediterranean, xerophilous taxon that is correctly delimited only when based upon Mediterranean records. Consequently, we designate the original Figure 5/Pl. 9 included by Barla (1888) in the protologue (Fig. 4) as its lectotype (iconotype) and select a recent collection from Liguria -where the Mediterranean taxon is rather widespread -as epitype. The basidiomata of the epitypical collection here selected are identical, in gross characters, with those depicted by Barla (1888) and exhibit microscopic features perfectly fitting the descriptions ...

A new Macrolepiota species from Brazil, M. capelariae, is proposed here based on morphological and molecular evidence. The description and illustrations are based on specimens collected in a remnant of the Atlantic Rainforest in São Paulo, Southeast Brazil. Analyses of nrITS sequences supported the recognition of this new species, in combination with morphological evidence, and revealed its phylogenetic placement in Macrolepiota sect. Macrolepiota. Macrolepiota capelariae is characterized by its medium to large and very tall basidiomata, light brown to pale greyish brown, brownish orange or clay brown pileus surface, ellipsoid to oblong, dextrinoid basidiospores with a distinct germ pore, narrowly clavate to sometimes clavate cheilocystidia, a trichodermal pileus covering composed of mostly clavate to narrowly clavate, thick-walled terminal elements, and absence of clamp connections. Nomenclatural types are deposited at the herbarium SP from the ‘Instituto de Pesquisas Ambientais’, São Paulo, Brazil. A comparison with allied species is provided. An earlier varietal name proposed based on a Brazilian material, viz. Lepiota procera var. vulpina Rick, could corresponds to a synonym of the new taxa, but the lack of nomenclatural type, extant original herbarium specimens, and the record of confident distinctive characters for this variety prevent a reliable correlation with the new species proposed.

Cortinarius: is a species-rich ectomycorrhizal genus containing taxa that exhibit agaricoid or sequestrate basidiome morphologies. In New Zealand, one of the most recognizable and common Cortinarius species is the purple sequestrate fungus, C. porphyroideus. We used genome skimming of the almost 100-y-old type specimen from C. porphyroideus to obtain the nuc rDNA internal transcribed spacer region ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 (ITS barcode) and partial nuc rDNA 28S (28S) sequences. The phylogenetic position of C. porphyroideus was established, and we found that it represents a rarely collected species. Purple sequestrate Cortinarius comprise multiple cryptic species in several lineages. We describe four new species of Cortinarius with strong morphological similarity to C. porphyroideus: Cortinarius diaphorus, C. minorisporus, C. purpureocapitatus, and C. violaceocystidiatus. Based on molecular evidence, Thaxterogaster viola is recognized as Cortinarius violaceovolvatus var. viola. These species are associated with Nothofagus (southern beech) and have very similar morphology to C. porphyroideus but are all phylogenetically distinct based on molecular data.

Taxonomic and phylogenetic studies of volvate Macrolepiota specimens collected from Atlantic Forest in Northeast and Southeast Brazil are presented based on morphological and molecular (nrITS) data. Macrolepiota dunensis and M. sabulosa var. velistellaris are proposed as new taxa, and additional observations are presented about M. pulchella , a species previously known from Brazil. Macrolepiota dunensis and M. pulchella clustered in the clade corresponding to M. sect. Volvatae . Macrolepiota sabulosa var. velistellaris was placed together with non-volvate M. sabulosa var. sabulosa , close to another volvate taxon ( M. rhodosperma var. velicopia ), and together with species classified in M. sect. Macrolepiota . Our phylogenetic results provide additional evidence that the volva, which is not restricted to members of M. sect. Volvatae , evolved more than once in the genus.

The genus Podaxis was first described from India by Linnaeus in 1771, but several revisions of the genus have left the taxonomy unclear. Forty-four Podaxis species names and nine intraspecific varieties are currently accepted, but most fungarium specimens are labelled Podaxis pistillaris . Recent molecular analyses based on barcoding genes suggest that the genus comprises several species, but their status is largely unresolved. Here we obtained basidiospores and photographs from 166 fungarium specimens from around the world and generated a phylogeny based on rDNA internal transcribed spacer ITS1, 5.8S and ITS2 (ITS), and a phylogenomic analysis of 3 839 BUSCO genes from low-coverage genomes for a subset of the specimens. Combining phylogenetics, phylogenomics, morphology, ecology, and geographical distribution, spanning 250 years of collections, we propose that the genus includes at least 16 unambiguous species. Based on 10 type specimens (holotype, paratype, and syntype), four recorded species were confirmed, P. carcinomalis , P. deflersii , P. emerici , and P. farlowii . Comparing phylogenetic analysis with described species, including morphology, ecology, and distribution, we resurrected P. termitophilus and designated neotypes, epitypes, or lectotypes for five previously described species, P. aegyptiacus , P. africana , P. beringamensis , P. calyptratus , and P. perraldieri . Lastly, based on phylogenies and morphology of type material, we synonymized three reported species, P. algericus , P. arabicus , and P. rugospora with P. pistillaris , and described five new species that we named P. desolatus , P. inyoensis , P. mareebaensis , P. namaquensis , and P. namibensis .

Alonso, J., Rigueiro, A., (2020). Catálogo da macromicobiota das montañas do Courel (Galicia, NO España). Monografías do Ibader - Serie Cadernos da Estación Científica do Courel. Ibader. Universidade de Santiago de Compostela. Lugo. Abstract Cataloguing works about biodiversity are essential as a knowledge base in order to guarantee the natural environment sustainability, as well as for the definition and application of projects of management and development of the territories. This work is an approach to the knowledge and cataloguing of the macromycobiota of the divisions Basidiomycota and Ascomycota of the Courel montains, describing 410 taxa for the territory, which together with 126 taxa previously record by other authors, and also collected in this work, make a total of 536 referenced taxa, an important number reflecting the great fungal biodiversity of the Courel mountains, which corresponds to the geological, climatic and floristic diversity of this exceptional territory. Of the 410 descripted taxa, 323 are first time published records in the territory of Courel mountains, 109 in the province of Lugo, 48 in Galicia, 5 in the Iberian Peninsula, and one in Europe: Simocybe serrulata. The study was made during a bit more than 3 years (autumn 2016, end of 2019) via periodic work of mycologic prospection in the territory, complemented in the labs of the Courel Scientific Station and the Department of Crop Production of the Higher Polytechnic Engineering School (USC-Campus Terra, Lugo). Keywords mycobiota, Basidiomycota, Ascomycota, fungal biodiversity, Lugo.
