Appalachian coal processing wastes are typically acid forming with potential acidities in Virginia ranging from an average of 12 Mg CCE demand/1000 Mg waste up to > 50 Mg/1000 Mg where higher sulfur coal seams are cleaned. Direct seeding of these materials is further complicated by high rock fragment content, low water-holding capacity, and high su...

We explore the effects of land reclamation on the morphological evolution and sediment sorting on a tidal flat using a state-of-the-art numerical model (Delft3D). Consistent with existing field observations and analytical theories, model results indicate that the longitudinal profile adjusts itself converging to new equilibrium states (narrower and...

The dynamics of spatial heterogeneity of the pedozems land reclamation of the Nikopol manganese ore basin has been studied for two years in terms of hardness. Researches have been carried out on a research center for studying of recultivation processes in Ordzhonikidze city. Measurement of soils impedance have been made in field conditions with the...

Coal mining results in the generation of large quantities of waste, which in turn results in non-productive use of the land, air and water pollution, possible failure of waste embankments, and the loss of aesthetic value of the land. It is important to find alternate uses for coal mine refuse and fly ash, the two important byproducts of coal industry, so that their disposal without adverse environmental effects becomes possible. The preliminary findings of the characteristics of the coal mine refuse collected from three different coalfields has been reported here.
