The author proposes a taxonomical synthesis of the genus Helvella, subgenus Elasticae, containing for a part the species that Boudier (1907 ; 1905-1910) had integrated in his genus Leptopodia. All the taxa accepted in this note are illustrated by colour photographs. Ancient illustrations are also used to complete the iconography

... Furthermore, the iconic European Helvella species names, e.g., H. lacunosa, H. corium, H. elastica and H. acetabulum have been applied to specimens belonging to a number of phylogenetically related or unrelated Helvella taxa in regional or local reports on the genus, and misidentifications of Helvella spp. in the literature and on the web are common. The more comprehensive 20th and 21st century taxonomic works on the genus Helvella in Europe include the works of Dissing (1966aDissing ( , b, 2000, Harmaja (1977bHarmaja ( , 1979, Häffner (1987) and Van Vooren (2010. Dissing (1966b) recognised 26 species of Helvella in Europe, a list which was later expanded to 28 (Dissing 1972) and to 38 in a later survey of the species confined to the restricted area of the Nordic countries (Dissing 2000). ...

Helvella is a widespread, speciose genus of large apothecial ascomycetes (Pezizomycete:Pezizales) that are found in terrestrial biomes of the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. This study represents a beginning on assessing species limits and applying correct names forHelvellaspecies based on type material and specimens in the university herbaria (fungaria) of Copenhagen (C), Harvard (FH) and Oslo (O). We use morphology and phylogenetic evidence from four loci - heat shock protein 90 (hsp), translation elongation factor alpha (tef), RNA polymerase II (rpb2) and the nuclear large subunit ribosomal DNA (LSU) - to assess species boundaries in an expanded sample ofHelvellaspecimens from Europe. We combine the morphological and phylogenetic information from 55Helvellaspecies from Europe with a small sample ofHelvellaspecies from other regions of the world. Little intraspecific variation was detected within the species using these molecular markers;hspandrpb2markers provided useful barcodes for species delimitation in this genus, while LSU provided more variable resolution among the pertinent species. We discuss typification issues and identify molecular characteristics for 55 EuropeanHelvellaspecies, designate neo- and epitypes for 30 species, and describe sevenHelvellaspecies new to science, i.e.,H. alpicola,H. alpina,H. carnosa,H. danica,H. nannfeldtii,H. pubescensandH. scyphoides.

In North America, 32 species have been registered (Abbott & Currah, 1997;Nguyen, Landeros, Garibay-Orijel, Hansen, & Vellinga, 2013;Weber, 1972), 20 for Asia (Kaushal, 1991;Zhuang, 1995), 3 for South America (Dissing, 1966;Gamundi, 2010;Wright & Albertó, 2006), 3 for Africa (Dissing, 1966), and 2 species for Australia (Rifai, 1968). ...

Phylogenetic relationships in the genus Helvella were investigated using both LSU rDNA sequences and morphological features. The latter were coded and included in the analyses, resulting in better-supported clades. Helvella is monophyletic and Wynnella is its sister genus. Aporhynchous vs. pleurorhynchous asci are the synapomorphies for the 2 subgenera, Leucomelaenae and Helvella, which were confirmed as natural groups. Other recovered supported clades were section Leucomelaenae in the subgenus Leucomelaenae, and sections Elasticae, Helvella, and Lacunosae within the subgenus Helvella. Generic description, comments on taxonomically informative features, species complexes, and species that need typification are presented.

Abstract.-Following a thirteen year long period of survey in the Midi-Pyrénées southwestern region of France, especially in the institutional framework of a National Botanical Conservatory, we present a number of mostly unpublished observations. These data refer to eight taxa new to science, 47 new to France, 287 new to the Midi-Pyrénées region and 56 taxa that had already been reported from the region, but of particular interest. For each of them, are provided localities and dates of observation, ecological data and herbarium references. For some, chorological, ecological or taxonomic observations are added. Pictures of rarely illustrated taxa, mostly in situ, are published for 52 of them.

(This paper is the second part of a report on the collections and first finds of some rare, less known, or hitherto probably overlooked ascomycetes in the Podyjí National Park from 2017 to 2021, dealing with species of the class Pezizomycetes. Data from literary and herbarium sources related to the ecological requirements of the presented taxa are compared with knowledge gained during the field research, and taxonomic issues are also commented on. For species with an exceptional occurrence in the Czech Republic, i.e. Elaiopezia polaripapulata, Geoscypha ampelina, Leucoscypha leucotricha, Malvipezia howsei, and Peziza saccardoana, an overview of exsiccates deposited in the collections of Czech public and private herbaria is presented.)

Phylogenetic analyses of 115 newly collected Helvella specimens from Spain using three genetic markers [heat shock protein 90 ( hsp ), RNA polymerase II second largest subunit ( rpb2 ) and the nuclear large subunit ribosomal DNA (LSU)] confirm the assignment of the Spanish collections to one Dissingia and 30 Helvella species. The analyses were supplemented with an additional sample of 65 Spanish and extralimital Helvella specimens from the fungaria of Oslo (O), Trondheim (TRH), Copenhagen (C), Uppsala (UPS), Stockholm (S) and Venice (MCVE). Nine species are described as new, i.e. Helvella fuscolacunosa , H. hispanica , H. iberica , H. inexpectata , H. neopallescens , H. phlebophoroides , H. poculiformis , H. retinervis , and H. terricola . We present photographs of a selection of fresh specimens and provide descriptions of all species of this diverse South European Mediterranean element of the genera in Europe.
