Context 1
... performed two surveys to identify how students felt about games as learning vehicles and which features in a game are more attractive. In survey 1, one hundred female University students polled about their attitudes towards games. Figure 1 shows the results of the survey. A majority of the responders thinks that games are useful for learning. The intent of survey 2 was to assess which characters were most popular among pupils. Fifty K-1 pupils were given pictures of various characters and were asked to rank them. Figure 2 shows the results. Unlike the wealth of data found in the U.S.A. We address the personalized/customized learning claim made by proponents of game-based learning (GBL), that is, GBL supports effectively learning personalization. Even though popular and fascinating, this claim remains unfounded. Indeed, in the literature on games, mentions of the multiplicity of exploration paths are put forth as examples giving players (learners) opportunities to tailor their learning experiences. This implicit assumption fails to demonstrate any kind of relationship between learning customization and playing games for learning. We explore some of the dimensions of the problem, describe a proposed framework, and use an example to demonstrate our approach.
