... disk is limited to a specific internal diameter it is necessary to apply a proper DR displacement to model the removed part of the disk. The DR value is initially calculated using an axisymmetrical model where blade load was modelled as uniform pressure on the rim of the disk. The discussed FE model of the blade with the sector disk is shown in Fig. 25. The blade is modelled by using 7986 solid elements and it has 10155 nodes. The disk sector is modelled by using 9646 solid elements with 12056 nodes. The contact region include 210 3D contact elements. The FE model in question is performed in MSC/PATRAN system, whereas dynamic analysis is performed in MSC/ADVANCED_FEA ...

The paper presents a theoretical formulation based on Ibearugbulem's shape function and application of Ritz method. In this study, the free vibration of simply supported panel with one free edge was analyzed. The Ibearugbulem's shape function derived was substituted into the potential energy functional, which was minimized to obtain the fundamental...

... In this regard, Hou et al. (2002), who combined the finite element method with an experimental approach to study the effect of blade root flexibility on the vibration characteristics of the gas turbine blades, used tetrahedral elements due to geometrical complexity of the assessed blade. In the study conducted by Markowski et al. (2011), which they modeled and analyzed the free vibrations of a gas turbine blade, authors meshed most part of the model by "hex type" elements but completed the remaining parts by a combination of "wedge" and "tetrahedral" elements. Assef and Mahfuz (2009) used sweep meshing technique by hex and wedge elements in the ANSYS software to model and analyze the turbine blades. ...

In this paper, the first and second stage compressor blades of a gas turbine were studied by the experimental and numerical modal analyses. At first, the geometric models of these blades were generated by the 3D scanner and then the mode shapes and the natural frequencies of each blade were extracted by a series of numerical modal analyses. The numerical results were compared with the data obtained from the experimental modal analysis and the validity and accuracy of the developed numerical models were confirmed. Unlike most studies that use fixed-free boundary condition for performing a modal analysis, this objective was pursued by applying a free-free boundary condition. This study also investigated the effect of using wax or glue for mounting the accelerometer on the blade by assessing the FRF curves obtained from the modal tests in the frequency range of 0-10000 Hz. The sensitivity of the test results to applying free-free boundary condition, the number of accelerometers and their positions were investigated by defining three modal test configurations. The results obtained by these test configurations were compared with the results of numerical analyses and finally, the best configuration for the modal test of the studied compressor blade was determined.

This work deals with transversal vibrations of the toothed gear, which is discussed as an annular plate with a complex geometry. The procedure for determining the proper distorted normal modes of vibrations of the wheel with discontinuous geometry is discussed. The required models are created by means of the finite element method. The pre–stress effect is included by means of the ANSYS code. The problem of modelling utilizing cyclic symmetry of the system under study is discussed. It is important to note that the issues presented in this work have a practical value for design engineers dealing with the dynamics of rotating systems.

Free vibrations of a low-power reduction gear engaged with a hydraulic pump of the test rig are discussed. Vibration analysis is performed with the finite element representation and commercial ANSYS program. Vibration analysis of an examined system is conducted in the two stages. The natural frequencies of free transverse vibrations of the gears are first generated, and on the basis of the Campbell diagrams, the excitation speeds for several natural frequencies of examined gears are calculated. Then the free vibrations of a reduction gear are analyzed, and two computational cases are presented. In the first case, only the mass and geometry of all parts of the body are considered. In the second case, the mass of tooth gears is also taken into account. Based on the FE models, the first ten natural frequencies and natural mode shapes of a reduction gear are calculated. Then, these results are used to estimate the stress level in the walls of the body for a permissible acceleration value. As expected, smaller stress values for a permissible acceleration value are obtained for the second finite element model of the system. The problems discussed here can be helpful for engineers dealing with the dynamics of gear systems.
