Is the Pyrenean flora well known? The western Catalan Pyrenees are still surprising. Although the flora of the Catalan Pyrenees is rather complete at regional scale, there is great heterogeneity in the knowledge at the local scale. Field work during the last years has yield interesting novelties, in relation with the great environmental diversity of the Pyrenean range. In this paper, we gather the novelties in the vascular flora of the northwestern part of the Catalan Pyrenees arisen during the last decade (1999-2009), from bibliographic sources and field works. At this time 52 new taxa have been cited in the area of 21 square of 10 x 10 km considered, some even in places that had already been quite explored. Of these, one is new to science, five represent a novelty for the Iberian Peninsula and 16 are new for the flora of Catalonia. Also, some plants considered very restricted have been found at new locations of great chorological and conservationist interest. Thus, the distribution of some of the most rare or interesting plant species in the area is still poorly known. In contrast, studies on flora have been – and still are –not prioritised in the research planning, which has produced a clear decrease in the papers on flora during the last decade.
