Marble is the world's largest natural stone, followed by granite, sandstone, limestone, slate, quartzite and more. Around 90% of the world's production of marble comes from India. The marble industry is one of the most environmentally unfriendly industries. It is estimated that 20 % to 50 % of the marble slabs are converted into powder when sawed....

The necessity to overcome the challenge of cumbersome and time-wasting technique of strength determination of cement blends. Several avenues are been exploited in prediction of the mortar compressive strength of ternary cement blended comprising saw dust ash (SDA) and eggshell powder (ESP). The strength gains of the cement blends were determined an...

Masonry is typically non-elastic, non-homogeneous and anisotropic material composed of two materials of different properties. The stress-strain properties of masonry are required in the non-linear analysis of structures. Research scholars have suggested empirical relationship between modulus of elasticity and the compressive strength of masonry. Al...

The utilization of recycled brick aggregate (RBA) and recycled brick powder (RBP) in ce-mentitious materials helps the reclamation of clay brick waste in construction and demolition waste. This work studied the properties of cementitious materials with RBA as aggregate and RBP as supplementary cementitious material. The RBA has lower apparent densi...

Dry Stack Block Masonry (DSBM) is a surface bonded material, whose entire properties depends on the surface characteristics. In this paper, the basic mechanical properties of DSBM has been evaluated, through direct compression and diagonal tension test, performed according to the guidelines of ASTM. The compressive strength and elastic modulus of D...

The study is part of an experimental program on full scale Un Reinforced Masonry (URM) wall panels strengthened with Textile reinforced mortars (TRM). Eight brick walls (two with and five without central opening), were tested under the diagonal tension (shear) test method in order to investigate the strengthening system effectiveness on the in plan...

Growing urbanization leads to the generation of significant amount of different kind of wastes, which has raised concerns among citizens and governments, globally. On the other side, Masonry brick is an essential building unit which is used in the construction industry around the world. It is well known that the process of fired brick manufacturing is an energy intensive, and thus imparts higher carbon emission. Therefore, the main aim of this study is to promote sustainability and lower CO 2 emissions in brick manufacturing process. As a result, extensive research has been carried out to develop eco-friendly masonry bricks using various industrial and agricultural waste materials like fly ash, marble powder, ground granulated blast furnace slag, glass waste, sludge from various industry, rice husk, sugarcane fiber, etc. There are mainly two kinds of process being used for the manufacturing of bricks e.g., the process of the fired system, and of the unfired system. The process of the fired system is the most commonly used method for the manufacturing of brick. However, the process of an unfired system is preferable due to its environmentally friendly nature. This paper provides up-to-date comprehensive studies of the innovative brick made by using different kind of waste in terms of different properties such as physical, mechanical , durability, microstructural attributes and thermal properties. The presented paper is also discussed the effect of replacement percentage of waste on different properties, method of preparation of brick and firing temperature. The findings suggested that the performance of these bricks improved when compared to conventional bricks. Therefore, waste incorporated bricks have good potential to be used in construction of masonry buildings, reinforced-concrete buildings, etc. Along with the literature reviews, the ongoing research work at the Author's Institute on the development of different waste added bricks is also discussed.
