Rare remains of Reussiana cf. brevispicula Horbinger, 2000 have been collected near the Praha-Lochkov, together with a rich faunal association characteristic of the upper part of the Lochkov Formation (Lower Devonian, Lochkovian, Monograptus hercynicus graptolite Biozone). This occurrence confirms the earlier assumption that large Devonian dalmanit...

The upper Silurian faunas from NW Spain (West-Asturian Leonese and northernmost Central Iberian zones) are reviewed, with description and illustration of new fossil assemblages including trilobites, bivalves, graptolites, conodonts and albailliellid radiolarians. These new data demonstrate the palaeobiogeographical affinities of upper Silurian faun...

Two new graptolite assemblages are identified from discrete intervals within the Phu Ngu Formation, Na Ri District, Bac Kan Province, north-east Vietnam. The graptolites occur in laminated mud/siltstones thought to be distal turbidite deposits. A low-diversity diplograptid sensu lato assemblage occurs in mud-rich layers that are interlaminated with...

The Long Point Group (Caradoc) is the only representative of Late Ordovician foreland basin deposits exposed onshore in the southwestern Newfoundland segment of the Appalachian Orogen. This paper revises the lithostratigraphy of the Long Point Group, necessitating a significant modification to the geological map of the Port au Port Peninsula. It al...

It is the first time to document the trilobite Mucronaspis (Songxites) wuningensis and the brachiopod Paromalomena-Aegiromenella Assemblage from the Xinkailing Bed (Hirnantian, uppermost Ordovician) in Taoyuan and Cili counties, northwestern Hunan Province. Synecological analysis shows that this is a deep water shelly fauna of South China during th...

... The presence of the graptolite Monograptus uniformis angustidens Přibyl, 1940, at the base of the Aynasu horizon, indicates the lowermost Lochkovian (Maksimova, 1978a). However, no other index fossil was identified in the Kockbaital horizon, and late Silurian ages should not be rejected in some localities (see Budil et al., 2014). ...

The dalmanitid trilobite Kasachstania Maksimova, 1972, previously reported from the Lower Devonian of Kazakhstan and North America (USA) and the upper Silurian–Lower Devonian of South America (Bolivia and Argentina), is revised. Kasachstania kasachstanica (Balashova in Maksimova,1968) and K. septicostata (Maksimova, 1968) are regarded as junior synonyms of the type species K. saryarkensis (Maksimova, 1960), all from the Lower Devonian of the type locality in central Kazakhstan (northern Balkhash). On the basis of a new diagnosis, K. ulrichi ulrichi (Delo, 1940) from the Emsian of the United States, K. ulrichi asiatica (Maksimova, 1968), K. pristina (Maksimova, 1968), and K. alperovichi Pour et al., 2019, from the Lower Devonian of Kazakhstan, K. andii (Kozłowski, 1923) from the upper Silurian–Lower Devonian of Bolivia, and K. gerardoi Edgecombe and Ramsköld, 1994, from the upper Silurian–Lower Devonian of Bolivia and Argentina are excluded from Kasachstania . This genus, represented only by K. saryarkensis and K. kiikbaica (Maksimova, 1968), is restricted to the Lower Devonian of central Kazakhstan, corresponding to the Balkhash–Mongolo–Okhotsk province in the paleobiogeographic context of the Old World Realm, instead of being nearly cosmopolitan as previously considered. In addition, we provide some remarks about Saryarkella Maksimova, 1978b, a monospecific dalmanitid genus largely overlooked although valid from the Emsian of the same area in central Kazakhstan.
... An occurrence of the Scutellum sensu lato group and possibly also Longiproetus (known from the Pragian in the Barrandian area, but also occurring elsewhere up to the lower Givetian; see Šnajdr 1980, Vaněk and Valíček 2002, Van Viersen et al. 2012 is important for this trilobite assemblage. Such findings indicate that trilobite faunas in the upper portion of Acanthopyge Limestone (Tortodus kockelianus Zone below the "dark interval" sensu Hladil 1993) in Koněprusy area were also enriched by at least short-time immigrations of some "Rhenish-Type" taxa from other areas (current France, Germany, Belgium, Poland or Moravia); for such faunal exchanges within Devonian faunas, see also Havlíček (1994), Galle et al. (1995), Flick (1999Flick ( , 2018, Chlupáč and Kolář (2001), Budil and Kolář (2004), Budil et al. (2009Budil et al. ( , 2014, Van Viersen and Prescher (2009, 2011), Mergl (2014, Weiner et al. The trilobite assemblage of Calceola -bearing beds in the upper part of Acanthopyge Limestone (Choteč Formation, Eifelian) in the Koněprusy area, the Czech Republic, is described. Together with occurrence of Calceola , it indicates absence of significant palaeogeographic barriers restricting the distribution of the Rhenish-Type faunas in the Middle Devonian. The generic composition of the gathered trilobite assemblage somewhat differs from typical Acanthopyge - Phaetonellus assemblage characteristic for the Acanthopyge Limestone facies in possible absence and/or very rare occurrence of Phaetonellus , and only infrequent occurrence of Acanthopyge . Phacopid Chotecops cf. hoseri (H awle et C orda , 1847) distinctly dominates; all other taxa are rather rare. Important is an occurrence of scutelluids of the Scutellum sensu lato group (preservation of remains does not enable more precise determination) and Longiproetus (?). Trilobite remnants are generally poorly preserved and very fragmented (only minute shields are not affected), which support a high-dynamic, shallow-water original environment.

Many of the smaller geological collections that were once privately owned are stored in the Museum of Natural History in Ljubljana. These collections have had a great importance in history as part of teaching aids in science education. Among them are the school collections of the former Maribor Realka and the Ledina Gymnasium, as well as the private collection of Anton Bianchi. Collections were created in the second half of the 19th century, when the collections were an important learning aid. The Maribor school collection contains more than 2000 different examples of fossils, minerals and rocks. The collection of the Ledina Gymnasium comprises 45 specimens of rocks, 7 specimens of ores, 53 specimens of minerals and 161 fossil specimens. Bianchi's geological collection contains 214 specimens of fossils, 211 specimens of minerals and 214 specimens of coal. Among the fossils there are particularly interesting trilobites that come from some historically important European sites, such as the deposits in the Czech Republic (Skryje, Chuchle, Wesergebirge, Vesela, Koněprusy and Jince) and in Germany (Zizeneff, Hüsten, Landsberg, Gerolstein, Branik and Vakovice). The purpose of the diploma work was to provide a more detailed overview and revision of the trilobites from the above collections. I've fixed the order determination for 13 specimens. I did not manage to determine the site for all trilobites because the information about it was not misleading. In the great majority I managed to compare the species with each other, except in the case where only the family or the family was determined.
