The world genera of Mycetophagidae are reviewed and four new genera described. Several adult features of Mycetophagidae are discussed, and some newly discovered secondary sexual characters are described and illustrated. A key is given to the adults of all mycetophagid genera. The following new genera and species are proposed: Afrotyphaeola gen. n....

Abstract: Cryptophagus intermedius Bruce, Dienerella filiformis (Gyllenhal) and Melanophthalma rhenana Rücker et Johnson, 2007 are first time recorded for the fauna of Bulgaria as the first and third species are also first noted from the Balkan Peninsula. Left unmentioned for the country in the latest catalogues, but earlier noted in other announcements, other two species, Berginus tamarisci Wollaston and Melanophthalma taurica (Mannerheim) are confirmed for Bulgaria, with first detailed data reported. All the aforementioned species (except C. intermedius) have been reared and thus first time reported from the European mistletoe (Viscum album Linnaeus). A checklist of the Bulgarian hairy fungus beetles including new and republished data is presented too.

The present study aims to resolve the taxonomic confusion involving several taxa within Mycetophagidae Leach, 1815, originating from the introduction of the genus Atritomus Reitter, 1877, and then by its subsequent controversial interpretation. A detailed overview of the taxonomic and nomenclatural history of the taxa previously linked to Atritomus is provided. The authors propose the introduction of Stereophilus Biscaccianti, Audisio & Esser gen. nov. for Atritomus filicornis Reitter, 1887, and the restoration of Entoxylon Ancey, 1869 at the genus rank, together with some rectifications regarding the authorship and the date of publication of both Entoxylon and its type species, E. abeillei Ancey, 1869. Moreover, the Ethiopian species Atritomus vicinus Grouvelle, 1908 is herein transferred to the genus Typhaeola Ganglbauer, 1899 based on the examination of the holotype. The following new combinations are proposed: Entoxylon baudii (Seidlitz, 1889) comb. nov. (from Esarcus Reiche, 1864), Entoxylon besucheti (Dajoz, 1964) comb. nov. (from Esarcus subg. Entoxylon), Entoxylon franzi (Dajoz, 1964) comb. nov. (from Esarcus subg. Entoxylon), Entoxylon inexpectatus (Dajoz, 1964) comb. nov. (from Esarcus subg. Entoxylon), Entoxylon martini (Reitter, 1887) comb. nov. (from Esarcus), Stereophilus filicornis (Reitter, 1887) gen. et comb. nov. (from Atritomus), Typhaeola vicina (Grouvelle, 1908) comb. nov. (from Atritomus).

These setiferous patches may or may not have associated glandular openings, which have been observed across several beetle families (Faustini & Halstead 1982;Holloway 1985), including tenebrionoids (Lawrence et al. 2014), but are here discussed for the first time for aderids. The sexual dimorphism within some species indicates that the function of these setal patches may vary and perhaps they are used in courtship behavior or grooming. ...

The Aderidae (Coleoptera: Tenebrionoidea) of New Zeland are revised to include four genera and fourteen species. Three genera are described as new: one distributed throughout the Australasian region (Zenascus gen. n.) one endemic to the north and south islands of New Zealand (Transrenus gen. n.), and one that is endemic to the south island of New Zealand (Pseudozena gen. n.). Six species are also newly described (Pseudozena denticulata sp. n., Transrenus thulater sp. n., Zenascus roberti sp. n., Z. incensum sp. n., Z. elenae sp. n., Z. aurum sp. n.). All previously described New Zealand species of aderids contained in the preoccupied genus Xylophilus are transferred to the newly erected genus Zenascus, resulting in six new combinations (Z. antennalis (Broun), comb. n.; Z. coloratus (Broun), comb. n.; Z. luniger (Champion), comb. n.; Z. nitidus (Broun), comb. n.; Z. obscurus (Broun), comb. n.; Z. xenarthrus (Broun, 1910: 54), comb. n.). Holotype and lectotype designations are made or verified for all previously described species. The New Zealand species Xylophilus pictipes Broun is synonymized with Zenascus obscurus, syn. n. and Scraptogetus nigricans is synonymized with Scraptogetus anthracinus, syn. n. The Australian genus Pseudananca Blackburn 1893 is synonymized with the New Zealand genus Scraptogetus Broun, syn. n. Keys to the genera and species are included. Phenotypic characters previously employed in the higher classification of the Aderidae, including secondary sexually dimorphic characters, are discussed and a phylogenetic analysis for the ten New Zealand species of Zenascus is performed to reconstruct trait evolution in males, which display extreme dimorphic antennomere modifications.

Ulodidae is a small family of saproxylic and fungus feeding beetles restricted to New Zealand, Australia, Chile and New Caledonia. The phylogeny of this family is presented for the first time, based on a cladistic analysis of 53 adult characters from 16 ulodid genera, rooted with Parahelops Waterhouse (Promecheilidae). The topology shows Arthopus Sharp at the base of the tree and confirms the placement of Meryx Latreille as a member of Ulodidae and closely related to the Chilean genus Trachyderas Philippi & Philippi. The extinct New Zealand genus Waitomophylax Leschen & Rhode was placed among a clade consisting of Brouniphylax Strand, Exohadrus Broun, and Pteroderes Germain. Two new genera and two new species are described: Ulobostrichus gen. n. (type species: Ulobostrichus monteithi sp. n.) and Ulocyphaleus gen. n. (type species: Cyphaleus valdivianus Philippi & Philippi, 1864, now U. valdivianus (Philippi & Philippi) n. comb.; U. laetus sp. n.). Dipsaconia pyritosa Pascoe is designated as the type species of Dipsaconia Pascoe and a lectotype was designated for C. valdivianus. A fully illustrated key to the genera and a checklist of the 16 genera and 42 species is included. Based on the phylogeny, the following characters are derived in the family: tuberculate body surface and the presence of scales and/or encrustations. The presence of pore-fields in the abdominal cuticle has evolved at least three times in Meryx Latreille (Australia), Syrphetodes Pascoe (New Zealand) and Trachyderastes Kaszab (New Caledonia).

Herein we provide a nomenclatural review of the world Alleculinae genus-group names. Author, year of publication, type species, and type fixation are included for each name. Five fossil genera as well as 188 extant genera and 41 subgenera are considered valid. The following new replacement names are proposed: Borchmannius Bousquet and Bouchard for Glyptothorax Borchmann, 1937; Piccula Bousquet and Bouchard for Gerardia Pic, 1954. The type species of the following genus-group names are designated: Erxias Champion, 1888 (Erxias bicolor Champion, 1888), Lobopoda Solier, 1835 (Lobopoda striata Solier, 1835), Menes Champion, 1888 (Menes meridanus Champion, 1888), Plesia Klug, 1833 (Plesia melanura Klug, 1833) and Pleuromophlus Reitter, 1906 (Omophlus baudueri Baudi, 1877). The following new synonymies are introduced: Paromophlus Iablokoff-Khnzorian, 1983 (with Phibalus Gistel, 1856); Pleuromophlus Reitter, 1906 (with Odontomophlus Seidlitz, 1896). Lepturidea Fauvel, 1862 is considered the valid name for Aethyssius Pascoe, 1863. Three remaining nomenclatural problems (cf. Otys Champion, Prostenus Klug, and Odontomophlus Seidlitz) will require applications to the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature to promote stability.
