The first records for Scabiosa graminifolia, Potentilla clusiana and Seseli gouanii are presented for the Mt Snežnik Plateau. One new association, Scabioso silenifoliae-Dryadetum octopetalae ass. nova, and a phytocoenon with Scabiosa silenifolia are described.

3 Abstract: We present a conceptual model for the movement of organic carbon in karst. We argue that the drainage basin is the most appropriate unit for analyzing energy flux in karst. There are two main inputs in karst basins: 1) localized flow of particulate organic carbon (POC) and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) through sinks and shafts and 2) d...

The present paper aims to address the sustainable management issues of karst water sources in Slovenia and Croatia. It focuses on the Mediterranean part of the Dinaric karst, which holds important groundwater reserves. The importance of selected karst aquifers for water supply is presented. In addition, national drinking water management strategies...

Several tunnels were planned and some of them were constructed or are in construction in southwestern part of Slovenia. The adequate prediction of main geological-engineering, hydrogeological and water resources protection factors lies upon thorough investigation of karstification phenomena, lithological sequences and tectonic linea-ments.

Caves develop along sedimentary and tectonic discontinuities within soluble rock mass. In the Slovene Classical Kras (Karst), the primary lithologies are limestone and dolomite. Previous research of cave systems in SW Slovenia indicated a clear relationship between cave channel directions with local structural elements, which is also documented in...

One of challenging aspects in earthworks in Dolenjska karst, Slovenia, is large volumes and variable thicknesses of karst clay that appears as a part of the formation also called "stone forest", or it covers the limestone and dolomite bedrock. According to the USCS classification, the investigated karst clay is classified as clay of high plasticity...

... Hieracium piloselloides is also considered a Festuco-Brometea species either of the Scorzoneretalia villosae or of the xerophytic Brometalia erecti (Maccherini et al. 1998, Alegro 2003. Euphrasia liburnica on the other hand is a balkan endemic which has been identified as diagnostic of alpine grassland Elyno-Sesleretea communities in Croatia and Slovenia (Surina 2005, Surina & Surina 2010. Thymus longicaulis also participates with significant constancy in vegetation group 4. It is a Mediterranean species, diagnostic of Festuco-Brometea (Mucina 1997, Terzi 2015 and in the Balkans it has also been recorded as diagnostic of the orders Scorzoneretalia villosae (Horvat et al. 1974), Halacsyetalia sendtneri (Adid et al. 2015), and Brometalia erecti (Foggi et al. 2014) and especially of the alliance Cirsio-Brachypodion pinnati (Vassilev et al. 2012). ...
... Here we are suggesting that the calcicolus krummholz dominated by Pinus mugo of the Balkan Peninsula should be recognised syntaxonomically at the level of an alliance and therefore we introduce and validly describe such a new concept: (Horvat 1962, Janković & Bogojević 1967, Marinček & Čarni 2002, the Pinetum mugi illyricum (e.g. Fukarek & Stefanović 1958), the Lonicero bobasianae-Pinetum mugo (Trinajstić 1998, Alegro et al. 2000, Antonić et al. 2000, Španjol et al. 2003, Šikić 2007, Ljubičić et al. 2010 and the Hyperico grisebachii-Pinetum mugo Zupančič et al. 2004(Surina 2005, 2013, Vukelić 2012. ...

In the course of the compilation of a list of high-rank syntaxa of Europe, it appeared that some of syntaxa from south Europe were not validly described. In this paper, the following syntaxa have been either described or validated, such as the Potentillo montenegrinae-Festucion paniculatae (Festucetalia spadiceae, Juncetea trifidi), the Aquilegio nigricantis-Rhododendrion hirsuti (Rhododendro hirsuti-Ericetalia carneae, Rhododendro hirsuti-Ericetea car-neae), the Hyperico grisebachii-Pinion mugo (Junipero-Pinetalia mugo, Roso pendulinae-Pinetea mugo), the Lathyro veneti-Taxion baccatae, Quercion petraeo-cerridis (both Quercetalia pubescentis, Quercetea pubescentis) and the Buxo-Syringion vulgaris (Paliuretalia, Rhamno-Prunetea). Izvleček V okviru priprave seznama seznama sintaksonov visokega ranga v Evropi, se je pokazalo, da nekateri sintaksoni iz južne Evrope niso bili veljavno opisani. V tem prispevku so veljavno opisani naslednji sintaksoni: Potentillo montenegrinae-Festucion paniculatae (Festucetalia spadiceae, Juncetea trifidi), Aquilegio nigricantis-Rhododendrion hir-suti (Rhododendro hirsuti-Ericetalia carneae, Rhododendro hirsuti-Ericetea carneae), Hyperico grisebachii-Pinion mugo (Junipero-Pinetalia mugo, Roso pendulinae-Pinetea mugo), Lathyro veneti-Taxion baccatae in Quercion petraeo-cerridis (oba Quercetalia pubescentis, Quercetea pubescentis) in Buxo-Syringion vulgaris (Paliuretalia, Rhamno-Prunetea).
... In the Alps, like in the Carpathians, Hieracium bifidum is a constant component of high-altitude dry swards (Maurer 2005;Surina 2005a;Miller-Aichholz 2007). However, according to Dullinger et al. (2001) it is one of the differential species of the alliance Cephalanthero-Fagion; Eichberger and Heiselmayer (1997) regard it as typical for ass. ...

The paper provides detailed information on a locality of Hieracium bifidum in the Pełcznica Gorge (Wałbrzych-Bolków Foothills, Lower Silesia, SW. Poland), with particular reference to the population size and role of the species in the plant communities. The studied population of H. bifidum is a part of the community clasified as Asplenietum trichomano-rutae-murariae Kuhn 1937 association. In other regions of Central Europe the species prefers high-altitude dry swards and rocky swards on calcareous substrata. Distribution analysis of all sites in the Sudetes shows that H. bifidum should be included in the red list of endengered species of Lower Silesia as a vulnerable species (VU).

We conducted a phytosociological analysis of more than 250 relevés in the Julian Alps and compared them with similar communities elsewhere in the Alps and in the Dinaric Alps to describe the following new syntaxa of alpine swards and heathlands from the alliance Caricion firmae (class Elyno-Seslerietea): Saxifrago squarrosae-Caricetum mucronatae, Saussureo pygmaeae-Caricetum rupestris, Seslerio sphaerocephalae-Dryadetum octopetalae, Homogyno discoloris-Vaccinietum gaultherioidis, Saxifrago paniculatae-Caricetum fuliginosae and Homogyno discoloris-Loiseleurietum caricetosum firmae, the new association Achilleo clavennae-Elynetum myosuroidis from the alliance Oxytropido-Elynion and two new syntaxa from the alliance Loiseleurio-Vaccinion (class Loiseleurio-Vaccinietea): Homogyno alpinae-Vaccinietum gaultherioidis and Empetro-Vaccinietum gaultherioidis rhododendretosum hirsuti. Many species that are rare, of conservation concern or protected in Slovenia occur in the newly described communities.
