The aim of the research is to analyze the elements of environmental education in the process of teaching university students, and the level of environmental culture of students, to examine the relationship between environmental values and environmental responsibility. The obtained results show that students of civil engineering training have a medium level of environmental knowledge and skills, and proenvironmental attitudes and values are strongly expressed. Regarding the environmental orientation of teaching, the pedagogical and didactic areas were rated at a medium level, while the organizational area related to the curriculum was rated at a high level. Consequently, it is necessary to clearly specify environmental training in the curricula and study programmes of higher education institutions. The results of our study confirmed a positive correlation between environmental values and environmental responsibility. Respondents who believed that the effective functioning of society and the survival of mankind are inextricably linked to environmental protection demonstrated a greater degree of personal responsibility.
... The threats posed by environmental problems are a constant reminder for humans to reexamine their relationship with nature and reduce damage to their homes by practicing PEBs (Shafiei & Maleksaeidi, 2020). National parks and PAs in China are typical areas that are earmarked for biodiversity conservation and are also the most ecologically fragile areas; therefore, it is essential to study the PEBs of farmers in PAs. ...

Protected areas (PAs) are key areas for biodiversity conservation, and at the saµe tiµe they are also ecologically fragile areas. Therefore, proµoting farµers around PAs to practice pro−environµental behaviors (PEBs) in agroforestry production, resource utilization and biodiversity conservation is an effective way to help rural revitalization, and it is also an inevitable choice to protect the ecological environµent. Also a critical topic in global studies on environµental issues. This paper aiµed to deterµine whether the behavioral choices of farµers around PAs in China were influenced by social preferences. This study used factor analysis to categorize PEBs into both public and private spheres. A coµbination of cluster saµpling and randoµ saµpling was used to deterµine the respondents in each village. Additionally an intercept regression µodel was used to estiµate the effect of social preferences on different doµains of PEBs of farµers in the PAs. And further subgroup analysis was done for different age and different incoµe. The results show that (i) altruistic preferences, institutional trust, and interpersonal trust proµote the iµpleµentation of PEBs in both the public and private spheres, and that altruistic preferences and institutional trust have a stronger influence on PEBs in the private sphere. (ii) Froµ the perspective of incoµe disparity, altruistic preferences and institutional trust have µore significant incentive effects on the PEBs of households in the higher−incoµe group, and interpersonal trust has a stronger proµotional effect on the PEBs of faµilies in the lower−incoµe group. (iii) Froµ the perspective of generational differences, altruistic preference and institutional trust have a µore pronounced incentive effect on the PEBs of faµilies in the younger age group, and interpersonal trust has a stronger proµotional effect on the PEBs of faµilies in the older age group. Therefore, good social norµs should be established to stiµulate the altruistic culture of “love” and “benevolence” to precisely strengthen the awareness and responsibility of farµers to ensure environµental protection and biodiversity conservation.
... Sustainable attitudes, knowledge and behaviours amongst university students are all found to be more favourable than those amongst the general public (Kirby and Zwickle, 2021). In order to motivate university students' sustainable behaviours, the environmental attitudes, self-efficacy perceptions and sustainable behaviour perceptions that social media brings to them are essential (Shafiei and Maleksaeidi, 2020). In addition, pro-environmental education courses provided by universities also provide university students with environmental knowledge and actively and effectively promote their engagement in sustainable behaviours (Janmaimool and Khajohnmanee, 2019). ...

Purpose The use of social media for sustainable information is important since it has the potential to influence people’s intentions and behaviour towards sustainability. As previous studies on social media and sustainable development have primarily focussed on Western viewpoints, this study presents a comprehensive Asian perspective by investigating the impact of social media on sustainable intention and behaviour amongst Malaysian and Indonesian undergraduate university students. Design/methodology/approach A campus-wide online survey was conducted with 953 students from Malaysia and Indonesia. The researchers collected data through an online questionnaire and a two-week quantitative survey of undergraduate students in Malaysia and Indonesia. Quantitative data were analysed by SmartPLS software and comparative studies were conducted. Findings The result of the survey indicated that Facebook and Instagram were mainly used by Malaysian students to obtain and communicate about sustainability information, whilst Instagram was mainly used by Indonesian students. The findings also discovered that social media usage and social media effectiveness and usefulness are statistically significant predictors of sustainable intention amongst the students in Malaysia and Indonesia. Sustainable intention is also a statistically significant predictor of sustainable behaviour amongst the students. Additionally, this study also found that Malaysian students appeared to have a high level of the effect of sustainable intention on sustainable behaviour and the effect of the effectiveness and usefulness of social media to sustainable intention compared to Indonesian students. On the contrary, their use of social media related to sustainable behaviour was relatively low compared to Indonesian students. Originality/value Overall, the findings can contribute to the presently scant empirical works that focus on social media’s influence on sustainability and sustainable development. Furthermore, the findings contribute to the growing body of knowledge related to sustainability communication and sustainable education, particularly in terms of the use of social media in the learning and teaching process. Future research could focus on studying postgraduate students and university students from other Asian countries. Moreover, using qualitative methods like in-depth interviews or focus group discussion and applying other theories might unveil further results.

Recent research has specifically targeted the decision-making process of eco-friendly individuals, emphasizing the significance of recycling and its impact on sustainability. Our study extends this inquiry by examining the correlation between recycling participation and pro-environmental behavior among consumers, integrating the concepts of self-efficacy, feelings of pride, and social pressure into our analysis. We utilized targeted sampling to collect data from a diverse sample of 378 participants, ensuring representation across key demographic groups. By employing Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), we aimed to explore the intricate relationships underpinning recycling behaviors and pro-environmental actions. The results suggest that self-efficacy and feelings of pride significantly influence individuals’ recycling behaviors, highlighting the role of psychological and social factors in promoting environmental sustainability. It was concluded that social pressure did not have the expected moderating effect on increasing consumers’ feelings of pride and self-efficacy toward recycling activities. This study sheds light on the underlying mechanisms that drive pro-environmental actions, contributes to understanding sustainability promotion through recycling, and offers insights for policymakers and environmental advocates to help foster environmental responsibility and behavior change. The findings emphasize that individuals often value personal achievement and development more when addressing environmental responsibilities and that social pressure does not achieve its expected effects.
... This is as stated by Biwer et al. (2021), that learning and motivation are two things that influence each other. Shafiei & Maleksaeidi (2020) also stated that: motivation in education refers to an element that propels or inspires learners to acquire or excel in the course material they are pursuing. Students won't take learning seriously or be interested in it if they aren't motivated. ...

This study examines the impact of emotional perceptions and social influence on green consumption practices, with a focus on Vietnam. Conducted using a non-probability sampling method, the research drew upon responses from 548 Vietnamese consumers. The SmartPLS Software was employed for hypothesis testing. It was determined that attitudes towards green products and the appraisal of environmental threats positively influence green purchase behaviors. Moreover, the effect of both attitudes and threat appraisal on green purchasing behavior was found to be positively moderated by social influence. By incorporating the role of social influence, this research extends the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) and bridges the gap between perception, attitude, and behavior. The findings suggest managerial implications for companies marketing green products in Vietnam, highlighting strategies to enhance consumer engagement and purchase. This study not only sheds light on the intrinsic motivations behind green product purchases but also underscores the amplifying role of social contexts in environmental consumerism

The current study’s objective was to present a conceptual model that using the Value-Belief-Norm theory, could forecast the behaviour of wheat producers in the West Azarbaijan Province. This study showed that the egoistic variable has a non-significant and negative correlation with pro-environmental behavior and the new environmental paradigm. In addition, environmental beliefs had a mediating effect on pro-environmental behavior, while norms and values had a straight effect on pro-environmental behavior. This shows that norms and values are more effective than beliefs. Moreover, personal norms, beliefs, biosphere, and altruistic values are considered to be significant predictors of pro-environmental behavior. According to the results, norms and values are more effective than beliefs, which can be helpful for future policymaking. The results further suggest that environmental behavior can be strengthened by emphasizing altruistic and biospheric values, enhancing environmental awareness, increasing the ascription of responsibility, and strengthening personal norms for reformative actions. The application of the value-belief-norm theory in the context of Iranian farmers is supported by this study, which improved understanding of the factors influencing farmers’ environmentally friendly behaviour. It also helps agricultural policymakers and decision-makers develop their policies for sustainable agricultural development by providing a better understanding of farmers’ decisions and behaviours.
