In recent years, the incidence of unexplained sudden death has risen significantly across the world. However, it occurred suddenly, often in young apparently healthy individuals and almost 50% of the patients did not have any warning signals or symptoms. Therefore, the prodromal symptoms before the incident are extremely important for early predict...

... The incidence of SUD in males had a higher statistically significant difference than females (P < 0.05). Therefore, SUD was more common in males, and in this aspect, our study is compatible with the other studies conducted in San Antonio, Texas [2] , North Carolina [4] , Girona Spain [6] , Columbus, Ohio [7] , China [8] , Amsterdam, The Netherlands [9] , Isfahan, Iran [10] , and Rio de Janeiro [11] . Fortunately, the incidence of SUDC (Sudden unexplained death in childhood: sudden and unexpected death of a child older than one year) was lower than SUD in young adults, and this result is compatible with the studies performed in Columbus, Ohio [7] . ...
... In addition, the cardiac causes of SUD were more than the non-cardiac causes, which is in contrast with the study performed in North Spain [12] . The most common age group of people who deceased due to SUD was that of the 31-35-year-old people, and this result is compatible with the studies performed in British Colombia [1] , and Sydney, Australia [5] ; however, this is in contrast with the studies conducted in San Antonio, Texas [2] , Columbus, Ohio [7] , China [8] , Isfahan, Iran [10] , and Rio de Janeiro [12] . Regarding the causes of SUD in 35-year-old people and below as per the autopsy reports, in the age group of 18-35-year-old people, 69.6% were due to cardiac and 30.4% due to non-cardiac disorders; therefore, the most common causes of SUD in young adults for both genders were cardiac disorders. ...
... This is compatible with the findings of the studies conducted in Iran, Isfahan [10] , and Rio de Janeiro [11] ; however, it is in contrast with the study performed in Australia [13] where the cardiac causes of SUD were lower. Our study showed that the SUD cases occurred in people without any positive past medical history, or due to any underlying diseases; this result is in contrast with studies performed in San Antonio, Texas [2] , North Carolina [4] , China [8] , Amsterdam, The Netherlands [9] , Isfahan, Iran [10] , Tunisia [14] , and Iran-ghazvin [15] . The past drug history of the subjects, in our study, was negative in the cases of SUD; this result is in contrast with the study conducted in Isfahan, Iran [16] . ...

Background: A sudden unexpected death (SUD) is defined as a natural, unexpected fatal event that occurs within one hour of the onset of symptoms in an apparently healthy subject. We did not have any official statistics about the causes and rates of SUD in Iran. Methods: The present study aims to compare the autopsy reports of SUD of individuals under the age of 35 years, during 2012-2016. We divided the cases into two age groups (Group A: 1-17 years old, and Group B: 18-35 years old, at the time of death) Results: In total, 1,873 sudden unexpected deaths were studied during 2012-2016 out of which, 1,580 (84.4%) subjects were male and 293 (15.6%) were female. There were no statistically significant differences among the rates of the SUD cases during the five years’ period of our study. The rates of SUD in our study were 91 (4.8%) in Group A, and 1,782 (95.2%) in Group B. SUD was the most common cause of death in the group with 31-35-year-old people [980 (52.3%)]. Conclusion: Our study shows that the main causes of SUD are congenital and acquired heart disorders. Our study demonstrates the necessity of convincing Iranian individuals to change their life styles.
... Mostly the symptoms were nonspecific and of a short duration. However in a study on prodromal symptoms only 18% had symptoms prior to death [23]. The recorded prodromal symptoms in this group are based on statements made by the relatives who at this desperate moment, try to relate their loved one's death to some form of illness. ...

Introduction Sudden unexpected natural death of a young adult is rare, but has a disproportionate impact on the community. This always requires a systematic forensic autopsy. At the completion of the autopsy it is expected to have the answers for all unanswered questions. However it is a challenge to the forensic pathologist since there are many sudden deaths without significant morphological anomalies.
