... However, existing studies focus on the use of digital platforms among governmental organizations (Falco & Kleinhans, 2018;Johnson et al., 2021;Rolland et al., 2018), development (Bonina et al., 2021;Moura & Gomes, 2020), culture (Calvo, 2022;Pesce et al., 2019), and business (Lee et al., 2022;Park et al., 2021;Ratten, 2022). Within this new corresponding literature, application-specific analysis of articles that focus on utilizing digital platforms is available (Choo et al., 2022;Khomo et al., 2023). Utilizing digital tools to enhance education among university students is a field of educational research that is crucial in communication education and scholarship. ...

Digital platforms have a high potential for supporting learning processes, especially in higher education. However, there appears to be a limited systematic review of research on the application of digital platforms in higher education. Using a systematic approach, this study analyzes previous research on digital platforms and how these technologies assist university students in their studies and the challenges involved. Examining 76 relevant articles from Scopus, Emerald Insight and ProQuest databases, the findings demonstrate that students' personal development could be accelerated by the practical application of technology through digital learning platforms. Furthermore, by utilizing digital channels, the COVID-19 epidemic has highlighted how crucial strategic management and flexibility are to the higher education sector. The study identified two main themes: digital platforms that support students’ learning and challenges associated with the deployment of digital platforms. Various unexplored areas on the use of digital platforms among university students are highlighted in the study. The review further recommends higher education institutions to offer digital literacy programs that educate students and faculty on using digital platforms, online privacy and data protection.
... In African countries, libraries are responsible for ensuring adequate information resources are provided to marginalized and outcast communities (Wong et al., 2018). This is usually done through the development of community libraries or rural libraries; however, in areas without libraries or librarians, mobile libraries have been used (Khomo et al., 2023). Dreeszen Bowman and Kitzie (2023) observe that when libraries share information resources with the LGBTQ+ community, the community always feels a sign of relief and comfort. ...

This review analyzes the quandaries facing libraries from African countries, especially from the sub-Saharan region, regarding the free dissemination and access to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ+) content. It examines the challenges the libraries face and finally highlights the role they should play in disseminating LGBTQ+ content.
... Open access and open data initiatives require financial resources for infrastructure maintenance, system upgrades, and continuous content acquisition. Digital libraries must explore diverse funding models, engage in partnerships with research institutions, funding agencies, and stakeholders to secure long-term financial support [19]. ...

Open Science is the broad term that involves several aspects aiming to remove the barriers for sharing any kind of output, resources, methods or tools, at any stage of the research process (https://book.fosteropenscience.eu/en/). The Open Science process is a set of transparent research practices that help to improve the quality of scientific knowledge and are crucial to the most basic aspects of the scientific process by means of the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles. Thanks to research transparency and accessibility, we can evaluate the credibility of scientific claims and make the research process reproducible and the obtained results replicable. In this context, digital libraries play a pivotal role in supporting the Open Science process by facilitating the storage, organization, and dissemination of research outputs, including open access publications and open data. In this focused issue, we invited researchers to discuss innovative solutions, also related to technical challenges, about the identifiability of digital objects as well as the use of metadata and ontologies in order to support replicable and reusable research, the adoption of standards and semantic technologies to link information, and the evaluation of the application of the FAIR principles.

Purpose This study aims to analyse and understand the current state of research in the field of digital marketing in “library and information science”. Design/methodology/approach This study used a “bibliometric research design.” A lexical title search was used to obtain the required data set for executing this study, and a comprehensive “indexing and abstracting” database, Web of Science, was used as a data harvesting source. Louvain’s clustering algorithm was used for network metrics. Findings The findings revealed that research productivity and impact have grown considerably over time, indicating significant attention towards digital marketing research in library and information science (LIS). Moreover, the results showed that the overall author collaboration patterns were weak, hence creating room for development in the author’s collaboration patterns. Practical implications The current study could be very beneficial in providing a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the “digital marketing” research field scholarly output in LIS, which can be used by researchers, practitioners and policymakers to guide their work and make informed decisions. Originality/value The originality of this bibliometric study lies in its comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of the current state of research in the field of “digital marketing” in LIS. This study provides a unique and in-depth understanding of the key authors, venues and papers in the field, as well as the trends and patterns in the research.
