Railway freight trains consist of many cars heading to different destinations. Hump is the special equipment that distributes cars with different destinations to different tracks in a marshalling station. In recent years, with the development of Chinese freight car technology, the axle load has risen from 21 ton to 23 ton and will rise to 27 ton in...

Inefficient or poorly planned waste management systems are a burden to society and economy. For example, excessively long waste transportation routes can have a negative impact on a large share of the population. This is exacerbated by the rapid urbanization happening worldwide and in developing countries. Sustainability issues should be accounted...

The purpose of the work is substantiating conditions for use of the target gravity braking technology for railway cars. To implement this technology, a marshalling system with a specific plan and profile design is proposed. Unlike conventional marshalling humps, the proposed system does not have any braking positions on the descending slope. The speed of cars rolling down from the hump is reduced with the help of the brake position in the classification bowl and elevations before it. Sufficient intervals between the groups of cars on switches are ensured only with the longitudinal profile. The main advantages of the marshalling system with target gravity braking technology include the significantly simplified rolling speed regulation without need for automated braking on the descending slope, and reduced effect of human factor and random parameters. Conditions of use of the target gravity braking technology are justified on the basis on the analysis of the calculation data of the rolling parameters of estimated cars with different values of uncoupling speed, wind speed and direction, permissible trailing-point movement speed and exceeding the permissible speed of entering the parking retarder position.
