This paper describes an innovative compression method of panoramic images based on MPEG-7 descriptors. The proposed solution employs a detection of a series of individual video frame overlaps in order to produce concatenated panoramic images. The presented method is easy to implement even in simple devices such as low power consuming chipsets insta...

Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients are used as an abstract representation of the spectral envelope of a given signal. Although they have been shown to be a powerful descriptor for speech and music signals, more accurate and easily interpretable options can be devised. In this study, we present and evaluate the shape-based spectral contrast descrip...

Wireless multimedia home servers are the next generation of home entertainment systems. The provision of high quality time-critical video streaming applications in indoor environments is very challenging due to high attenuation and interference caused by the walls and the contention in the shared wireless channel. This paper proposes a Delay-sensitive Multipath Forward Error Correction (DM-FEC) mechanism involving an estimation of available bandwidth and a mathematical analytical model with which the appropriate transmission rate, the FEC block length, and the FEC redundancy on each path in a multipath environment can be determined to solve previous problems. The DM-FEC mechanism not only selects the appropriate transmission rate and FEC redundancy on each path but also adaptively adjusts the FEC block length and concurrently sends data over multiple paths to overcome burst packet losses which otherwise can cause the video frame to be unplayable and impede the timely recovery of video information.

Construct a panorama is an efficient way to handle the limitation of camera visual angle. The process of constructing a video panorama can be defined as image registration and fusion of video frames to a composite wide-view image. This paper proposes a video panorama constructing algorithm based on color invariant features. The panorama constructing process contains three steps. At the start, we build the camera motion model based on color invariant features in order to apply our algorithm in a scene where there are illumination, highlights and shadows. After that, for the purpose of reducing redundancy and accelerating speed, key frames are selected for the following image fusion process. At last, the input frames are transformed to a same coordinate to fuse a panorama. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is effective and accurate.

In this paper, a scalable solution is presented for distributing panoramic video sequences to multiple viewers at high resolution and quality levels. In contrast to traditional broadcast scenarios, panoramic video enables the content consumer to manipulate the camera view direction and viewport size. By segmenting the panoramic input video into a set of separate sequences, transporting them over standard delivery channels and recombining them at end user side, bandwidth utilization is optimized and the quality of the video that is visualized is increased. The proposed solution, called the segmentation approach, is thoroughly explained and evaluated versus a single-stream solution with regards to several metrics, including bandwidth utilization, encoding speed, objective quality levels and seeking performance.
