... comparison of these individual and average methods (from Cabaret and Berrag, 2004 presented in Table 6)found major discrepancies in 4 out of 16 farms constituting a nearly 30% difference in FECR. The discrepancies were not related on the basis of initial EPG, host species, or level of efficacy, but instead they were related to the presence of few animals presenting highly different FECR from the rest of the group. ...

... have shown previously that non-specific effector functions of macrophages -phagocytosis and respiratory burst are gradually suppressed in the course of infection and that low doses of PZQ (60 mg/kg b.w.) in liposomes led to the significant activation of both functions. In further experiments, where infected mice received a much higher total dose of PZQ (see above) and co-administration of SIL was also evaluated, phagocytic activity of peritoneal macrophages was temporarily suppressed following termination of therapy, more in PZQ-treated group (Table 6). However, production of superoxide anions by adherent peritoneal cells was suppressed only in the group treated with PZQ and SIL gradually reaching values found in non-infected mice ( Velebný et al., 2010). ...
