The study examined the use of Zoom platform in teaching/learning in the university system. The study adopted a survey method and an online questionnaire was designed using SurveyMonkey for data collection from first year students taking the general "Use of Library" course at Evangel University, Akaeze, Abakaliki, Nigeria. In total, 180 students and two lecturers participated in the survey. To supplement the data from the questionnaire, the two librarians who lecture the "Use of Library" course were engaged in a semi-structured interview. The study found that zoom is a good platform for delivering online lectures but lacks the functionalities to administer and grade assessments. Therefore, other e-learning platforms should be explored to get a better alternative to physical lecture contacts during this COVID-19 pandemic era. Lecturers are always available, opportunity to record lectures and store files for re-use at convenience, allows for collaborative learning, sharing learning materials, freedom in asking lecturer questions, and a conducive learning environment at home were mentioned as some of the benefits of receiving lectures through Zoom. Challenges associated with online teaching and learning were also identified in the context of a developing country. The adoption and use of social media platforms like Zoom will make the teaching/learning process an interactive, collaborative, and participatory experience for all students.

Social media has become an important platform where users share, comment, discuss, communicate, interact, and play games. Aside from using social media for personal, social, and business purposes, the use of social media has gained attention, particularly for collaborative learning in the educational sector. This paper examines the role of social media in computing education based on the use of WhatsApp social media group. Additionally, the study explores how social media usage by students influences their perceived learning outcomes. Given these aims, the study formulated four research hypotheses and tested using Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling. With the participants of three hundred and thirteen (n=313) students, the study found a positive relationship between social media usage for computing education and perceived learning outcomes. In addition, the study found a linear relationship between communication in-group and perceived learning outcomes. Finally, the study revealed that social media positively relates to tie strength, and that tie strength influences in-group communication.

This study aims to find out how educators viewed the courtesy shown by the students during interactions using instant messaging media. Specifically, it aims to find out politeness indicators, communication challenges, and educators’ expectations. The interview questions included the concept of appropriate and polite messages between students as well as the overall attitudes of students within WhatsApp communication. The interviews are transcribed and coded based on what is listed in the framework. The results of the study reveal that most lecturers agreed students are adept in establishing communication through WhatsApp, compared to those in the past by incorporating greetings to open a conversation, stating identity, thanking and closing to end the conversation. Aside from a small number of students having trouble following etiquette, challenges appeared mostly when educators did not set clear rules on what they expected regarding WhatsApp communication. Educators have lower expectations on WhatsApp use in non-academic context.
